Whats the deal with fur?
Leather, loapard skin, fur, I am a veggie but I don't wear leather. My teacher told me off and she said "If you were a Vegan I would let you off" WHICH IS REALLY UNFAIR! #sob# Why should I wear leather? Luckily I wear shoes made out of a sort of plastic but b4 I got them, people were being real meen. Also, why do people wear fur? It makes no sence!

?????????????????????????
Fur is on the Animal to keep it warm, to shed water, and even for protection in some cases. I believe that if one skins an Animal, they should be skinned themself, IF it is for Commercialism.
Source(s):
Animal Lover of ALL kinds.
its a style and you know what women are like when they get an idea into their heads
Since the beginning of time (man on earth), he has hunted and exploited animals for all kinds of products.
Unfortunately, no viable alternate product has been invented to replace shoe leather.
Fur has it's uses in colder climates.
Certainly all these human activities leave something to be desired.
Being vegetarian will make you healthier, but dependence on animal products still continues.
Humans are higher on the food chain than animals...
Well, if the fur wasn't given to us then we shouldn't be wearing it. Fur sucks.
And dog fur has just been discovered in faux fur from Asia. Although it means fake fur, it means "dog fur" if it comes from China, Japan, or its surrounding areas. Some people may disagree, but this is brand new info because I saw it on the news last week. They even had videos of asian faux fur manufacturers beating innocent dogs before they killed them.
You have to think about the consequences. To wear leather or not is a personal choice. You choose to not wear leather, OK. Instead you wear shoes made of plastic, a petroleum product. Petroleum production impacts the earth in other ways. Leather production comes from animals and is a by product of a food source for humans. Does it not make sense to utilize this by product? Plastic is also a by product of energy production, again it makes sense to utilize it. No matter what your personal choices are, you as a human will impact the planet and the environment in your own way. Our task is to find the most responsible way and minimize the impact.
It does make perfect sense, people need many of the products from animals, regardless of your personal choices.
Why do people wear fur, simple they want to.
It is not your or my right to tell them they cannot. Just like nobody has the right to tell you that you may not wear your plastic shoes, because it destroys our environment.
Retort:
My house is powered by solar and wind energy.
2 reasons why people wear fur: weather and fashion.
1) to keep us warm: just like down, wool etc. Unless we can find an alternative, my choice will be still wool as it does not kill any sheep.
2) Fashion is senseless to me. Some people wear fur only because some big names decide that fur is "in" this season. And because of that, some animals are sacrificed. Hmm. Just like Hitler decided that Jews were of a lower life form.
People wear fur for fashion, and for warmth.
I haven't worn anything wool since after I became a vegan, And I layer in the winter, I don't get cold. As for fashion, that really doesn't apply to me because I get all my clothes from a thrift store or my basement. And anyway, why would someone feel cool walking around with the remains of a dead animal on their back. honestly I really don't understand the mentality their either.
Oh and by the way here is some info on the wool business:
http://www.all-creatures.org/anex/sheep....
http://www.savethesheep.com/
Just some info, since you think that the wool industry helps the sheep, and lambs.
I am confused. What exactly would your teacher "let you off" of? Your personal choices are none of her business. I can answer that better if I had more details. If it is a project that involves torturing animals, she has no choice but to respect your beliefs and let you settle with a C.
As far as there being no viable source of fake leather... my vegan Doc Martens have lasted me for 5 years now, and they are still going.
People wear fur for the same reason they eat meat, they just don't get the connection yet of what their trivial desires do to beings who can fear and suffer.
You don't have to be vegan to refuse to wear animal skins. I am a vegetarian and do not wear anything that came from an animal. I wont kill for flesh I don't need; I wont kill for skins I don't need. I am sorry though, but sheep are killed and tortured for their wool.
