Vegetarian beans and cornbread?!
Vegetarian beans and cornbread?
I grew up with my mom making navy beans, cornbread and fried potatoes, but she use pork in the beans. I am wondering is there a way to make it taste good but with out the meat.. +vegetarian beans. I am still new at being vegetarian most things I got but how to make beans taste good.. I'm still in the dark about.

Try adding a little liquid smoke to the recipe sans pork. That would give them that "meaty" flavor. You might also try some veggie bacon, browned in a little butter or oil. Morningstar Farms has "bacon" that's decent.
You can make the beans without the pork. They will still taste good, just different. It may take awhile to get used to it though. Another idea is to add molasses. That gives them an interesting flavour.
There is a list of beans recipe here for you. You can have a variety always. I like garlic in my beans.

well im almost 13 and ive been a vegitarian since i was 4, about 9 years and boy can i relate! my mother just loves to tease me by making navy beans! YUM! but with pork..yuck! well now ive learned to make a seperate pot for myself and try a little seasoning & yes it does have less flavor, but hardly.
Bush's makes vegetarian beans. You can look at the ingredients they use if you want to try to make it yourself. I'm not sure if they are navy though. From my memory, they are similar to their Original Beans with the bacon.
