Preparation
Lightly brush olive oil on both sides of Veggie burger and red onion. Grill veggie burger and onion for 8 minutes. Remove burgers from the grill and top with the onion and soy slices. Build the veggie burgers with the lettuce, tomato and condiments of your choice.

Yumm, you just made me hungry. This is a grilled black bean burger that you can really make on the grill. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't have barbecues anymore! Here's what you need:

2 slices of whole wheat bread (torn)
3 Tbs. cilantro leaves
2 cloves garlic
1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 canned chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
1 to 2 teaspoons of adobo sauce
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 beaten egg (you can use egg replacements)

Here's how you slap it all together:

Place torn bread in a food processor bowl or blender container. Cover and process or blend until bread resembles coarse crumbs. Transfer bread crumbs to a large bowl; set aside.

Place cilantro and garlic in the food processor bowl or blender container. cover and process or blend until finely chopped. Add the beans, chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, and cumin. Cover and process or blend using on/off pulses until beans are coarsely chopped and mixture begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl or container. Add mixture to bread crumbs. Add egg (or replacement); mix well. Shape into four 1/2 inch patties.

Lightly grease the rack of an uncovered grill. Place patties on the rack. Grill directly over medium coals for 8 to 10 minutes or until patties are heated through, turning once halfway through grilling.

You can serve these with chopped tomatoes or guacamole.

Makes 4 servings

Per serving: 178 calories, 7 g. total fat, 53 mg cholestorol, 487 mg. sodium, 25 g. carbohydrate, 11 g. protein

Black bean burger
1 can black beans
1/4 cup corn
1 t coriander
1/2t cumin
1 clove garlic
1/2c whole wheat bread crumbs
1/4c TVP
(you can add an onion too, I just hate them and removed it from the recipe)
mix it all together and mash up the bans with a potato masher or fork. Let it all sit for about 10 mins.

Form the mixture into 4 patties. Drege the patties in whole wheat flour.

put 2-3T of olive oil in a frying pan, and fry each side for about 4-5 minutes.

Add a slice of cheese if you like.
