Being a vegaterian?!

Question:

Being a vegaterian?

are u allowed to eat fish if u are a vegeterian?????

Answers:
a 'real' vegetarian doesn't eat fish - but it's surprising just how many 'so-called' veggies do eat seafood - of course they are NOT real veggies if they do

there is an alternative, you can be a pescatarian (sp?) they give up all meat but still eat seafood

you can always give up red & white meat and if you feel like it at a later date you could give up seafood too if you wanted to be an official veggie

good luck xx

Ok your asking like Vegetarians are a cult and will hunt you down if you eat fish. Vegetarians can eat anything they want, however if you are a true veg you shouldn't be asking this question I am pretty sure you know the answer and you are just trying not to feel too guilty about eating meat.

The term "vegetarian" is really a misnomer, since vegetarians eat more than just vegetables. Vegetarian simply means a plant-based diet. There are several kinds of vegetarian diets, defined by what types of foods are consumed.

A strict vegetarian, a vegan, avoids all foods of animal origin, including meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, and eggs.
Lacto-vegetarians include dairy products in their diet. Lacto-ovo- vegetarians also eat dairy products and eggs.
Pesco-vegetarians eat fish, dairy products, and eggs along with plant foods. (We believe this is the healthiest diet for most people).
Finally, there are semi-vegetarians, who cheat a little and eat a little poultry along with fish, as well as dairy products and eggs. Most veggie lovers are not strict vegans.

I've always been a vegetarian in the sense that i've never eaten meat. But when i was younger my mother didn't think i got enough protein so made me have fishcakes and fishfingers- things that didn't look like a fish!
I still considered myself a vegetarian. But now i can't stand the thought of fish so am now a true vegetarian.
But i know many people who consider themselves vegetarians but eat fish. So its upto you what you call yourself!!

There are different kinds of vegetarians, some are very strick and does not eat anything that grows from the ground or there are other, like myself, who eats fish, seafood but no meat.

you are "allowed" to eat whatever you choose, but you dont call yourself a vegetarian if you eat fish-then you are a pescatarian. I initially ate fish and seafood when I gave up meat, but I no longer do.

most vegaterian eat fish

No, If someone calls themself a vegetarian, they should not be eating meat. Fish is meat, It was alive at one point, and it is an animal.
But some people call themselves "vegetarians" and eat fish. But they are not really vegetarians:)
Piscavore- Fish eater

A vegetarian is allowed to eat anything they want. There are no vegetarian police that will come and arrest a wayward vegetarian.

However, you would not accurately be called vegetarian anymore. You would be a meat eater or an omnivore.

can we all say "vegetarian"? i know it's a little hard to spell...

What do you mean by, "are u allowed to...?" Are you asking whether a vegetarian who eats fish would get a prison sentence? If so, I feel sorry for all you vegetarians.

You're "allowed" to eat anything you want. There isn't really a veggie jail you'll end up in. But by definition, vegetarians do not eat animals, and fish are animals. So to answer your question: No, vegetarians do not eat fish.

It depends the the "level" of what type of vegetarian you want to be.

A "strict vegetarian" only eats plant food and honey.
A " Pescatarian" or "Pesco vegetarian" still eats fish but no other meat products - like animal flesh, dairy, eggs or fowl.

This book helped me to understand the world of vegetarianism much better and there is more then one type of vegetarian.

For me personally I am considered a
"pollo vegetarian" I still eat chicken but no other animal flesh and no seafood. I still eat dairy (eggs and milk)

Hope that helped clear things up for you!
