Answers:
Meat is truly disgusting if you do your homework. Its full of unsavory stuff, such as purines, blood, pus, parasites, bacteria, fecal matter and loads of other unpleasant things. Finding satifsfactory vegetarian options is quite easy, and its really nothing more than a mindset Like most, you have been conditioned to believe your body needs meat-it doesnt. You can make wonderful vegetarian pupusas, arancini, stir fries, grilled veggie kababs on the bbq, etc. If you think about it, meat really only tastes good because of the way it is seasoned. Unseasoned meat is bland and uninteresting. Learn to season your veggies well, and you wont miss the taste. If you find a good balance, such as combining veggies with beans and whole grains such as quinoa, rice, millet, etc, you are likely to have more energy and be more satisfied. Nuts, seeds, and sprouts are all filling and full of protein. If anyone had told me 10 years ago that I could be happy off of meat, I would have laughed-food allergies forced the issue, and it has been years since I had any. I don't miss or crave it at all-in fact I am repulsed by the thought of it. Here is a good website with some further information. Just tell yourself that if you are put off by cooking it, do you really want it rotting in your body for days on end. Good luck in your journey-feel free to email me if you need a little further support.

edit: I suspected you would recieve many answers saying not to give it up, and I see I was right-these people are uninformed-listen to the ones that have done their homework, and not just going by a notion they were raised with-its perfectely okay to form your own ideas as an adult

Pulses are your answer, i did for a time felt the same as you, couldnt eat meat then i found lentils and all that . good luck i hope you find a happy medium.

try some of these

you can get protein from other items to substitute the missing meat.

Don't give up meat. Your body needs to protein and you won't get full so easily if you don't eat meat.

you have teeth for a reason. don,t give up meat just try different recipes different cooking styles have a break from it sure but don,t give it up . good luck .

Try out soya granules or chunks. If cooked in the right way you can well substitute them for meat. Similar texture and consistency. If you feel you dont have the energy to do your job after having a vegetarian meal keep in mind..elephants too are veggies. Its all attitude.

Vegetarian meals can be as filling and energy giving as meat meals. There are many products on the market that are meat substitutes e.g. Quorn. It depends on whether you are cooking them yourself or relying on ready made meals. Ready mades are not nutritious even if they are meat based. I recommend buying a few cookbooks and also experimenting. If you are having roast just have more veggies and spuds instead of meat. Steer well clear of any Linda McCartney's stuff though, it tastes like sawdust.

well you can do all kind of beans & lentils - they are high in protein and will fill you up better.
Also you need to add lots of "dark green" color veggies like, spinach, broccoli, broccolini, brussel sprouts, sweet peas, snap peas etc.
Another option is dairy products like milk & eggs. Also don't forget to add eggs to your diet, if you are concern aobut the cholesterol factor just altenate by some days only eating the egg whites.
The last thing I would recommed is to use can tuna or soem cold cuts in your saads, also they are some great allready cooked eat products in the market that you can buy to supplement from time to time your protein and kick up a knotch your salads...

Well, I have some advice. Use easy to make meat like chicken. If that still turns you off, try boca burgers. I am not a vegetarian but the boca burgers are not as gross as I thought and slathered with ketchup, I can't tell the difference. You might need to supplement vegetarian meals with some protein rich things like peanut butter or nuts. I hope you find what works for you!

eat wheat, oats, barley, rye, ect. all fruits, all vegetables, 5 of each a day (fruit and vegies)all beans, lentils ect. legumes and rice, pasta, all kinds of nuts, nuts are quite filling u will b surprised!! cook the vegies its easier to eat them when they are cooked! make a fruit juice with the fruits and chew on a carrot or carry nuts with u when u get hungry!oh yes and cook the onions golden brown first then throw in the other vegies cooked onions taste completly diffrent from raw ones as do all the other vegies!!!! iv also just started to b a vegiterian!!! good luck!!!! freedom!!!!!!

Steam the veggies and get Gorton's "Grilled Salmon." There are 2 per box. You can microwave them on high for 3 minutes, add lemon, garlic powder, and salt / pepper to taste. They're "to die for!" Can't find 'em where you are? Try this: Buy some chicken quarters (Tyson). Skin the chicken and boil it. Drain the water, add 2 cans of Swanson's chicken broth, garlic powder, and salt / pepper to taste. It's better than you think!
Finally, another "quick" meat dish to go with your steamed veggies: Buy your choice of canned or pouch Tuna. Drain the oil (it's best done with a collinder--I'm not sure how you spell it). It's a metal basket with holes that a cook can sift oil, flour, etc. through. Add things like garlic powder to it.

My suggestion is that you read dr Robert Young's book "the pH-miracle". It'll give you some answers.

I wont give you any details, since your attention and time here is limited. However eating meat is a non-healthy way of living. This statement I read in a book about health written in 1905. And it sure made me wonder so I kept seaching and found "the pH-miracle".

This is all I will give you and I know you'll use it in the best suitable way for yourself. Take good care of yourself and live in health.

:P

It depends why you want to give up meat... there are plenty of sources of ethically farmed meat and poultry today, so go that route if that's the reason.

The reason being vegetarian and healthy is such hard work is that your body has evolved to do best as an omnivore.

Sounds like your eating the wrong kind of vegetarian meals-eat lentils and beans as well as fruit and veg. Also try tofu asnd other meat substitutes.

I gave up red meat, pork and chicken. I still occasionally eat tuna and salmon. There are plenty of recipes for tofu and fish. Try it, you'll like it...

Trust me, I get so full on vegetarian meals I can hardly move. And I have quite an appetite!

You said you don't like onions, here is something I make often and I always feel so full after eating them:

Vegetarian Enchiladas (sounds fancy but it literally takes 20 mins):

8 vegetarian friendly flour tortillas
1 large can of Old El Paso enchilada sauce
1 12 oz can of vegetarian friendly refried beans
1 box of vegetarian friendly spanish rice
Lettuce and Tomato

Dairy products for optional toppings: (if you don't want dairy, use the vegan alternatives)
sour cream
shredded cheese

Cook the spanish rice and mix it in a large bowl with the refried beans. Once these are completely mixed, heat the flour tortillas in microwave for about 1 minute or until flexible. Place the bean and rice mixture in the center of the tortillas and roll them into burrito shapes.

Pour a thin layer of enchilada sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 pan, just to cover it. Now place the burritos in the pan side by side, or fit them so there is enough room to remove them with a spatula later on.

Now pour the enchilada sauce over the burritos to cover all of the white area on the tortillas. Sprinkle shredded cheese or vegan replacement over the top (be generous).

Now place these in the oven at 350 for about 15 mins (or until cheese is melted). After removing them from the oven, use a spatula to remove these individually and sprinkle diced lettuce and tomato chunks over the top. Use sour cream or hot sauce if desired.

You will be stuffed after eating these, trust me.

Vegetarian on the go: 7 layer burritos from Taco Bell, side of rice, cheesy bean and rice burritos. For vegan, tell them to hold the cheese and sour cream.

You can also eat cheese pizza or add fun toppings like green peppers, mushrooms, etc.

The above 2 options are definitely not as healthy as they should be, but they are options for fast food if you don't have the time to cook a meal.

Congratulations on making a great decision - now is the time to become a vegetarian! There are so many great products out there now!! That it will feel like you never really gave up meat! They have the best veggie burgers out there you just need to find the one that suits you best. (Boca Products, Morning Farm, and Veggie Burgers) They make excellent meat substitutes! Not just burgers but bacon, sausage, hotdogs, "chicken" nuggets - you name it they got it!! It will make switching to a non meat life easier for you. That's what I had to do.

When I met my hubby he is a vegetarian and I thought how "boring" it must be to not eat meat - but with an open mind and trying new products I was able to find things that I actually enjoyed more then the real thing!

Like you I am NO fan of ONIONS - but you don't have to eat those at all. As long as you go about it the right way you can get most or all of your daily nutritions - being a woman I take a multi vitamin just to make sure.

I got this book when I met my husband to help explain the world of vegetarianism and it has great ways to start to become a vegetarian "like a 12 step program." It helps you go slow so your body will adapt to the new changes your are making.

good luck to you and don't be afraid to try new things!

Giving up meat? If God didn't want us to eat it why would he make it taste so good?

I add a litle bit of olive oil to my meals or some kind of fat to add some calories to it.I also try and eat 6-8 small meals a day because that feels better and I don't get hungry.

Giving up meat will be great for your mind and body .. and take you healthy into the future.. many weightlifters and athletes are vegetarian .. I have been vegan for 25 years and feel wonderful .. but at first it is hard to know what to eat ..it is easy today to substitute veggie meats for animal flesh ..there are to name a few veggie burgers, veggie dogs, veggie sausage, veggie chicken (nuggets, strips and patties , veggie bacon , veggie bologna, veggie roast beef..you name it ..it is in many everyday supermarkets as whole foods and health foods stores ..look in freezer section .. second you could eat soups , rice dishes, pastas, Indian foods potatoes and veggies in curry , middle eastern as falafels and humos , Mexican corn /bean tamales or Bean burritos, I make vegan meat balls, vegan meatloaf and tonight we had vegan stuffed raviolis fresh from the local pasta shop .. let your imagination go.. think of any dish you like and begin to substitute ..some products are great and others I do not care for..but there are sooooo many choices today .. you will not feel hungry or have loss of energy..In fact your energy level over time will increase ... it is a great choice!

Well, you'll need to do some research to ensure that your diet is well-balanced. A good place to start is the Vegetarian Society website, particularly their guide for new vegetarians http://www.vegsoc.org/newveg/index.html.... There are loads of recipes on the site as well http://www.vegsoc.org/cordonvert/recipes...

Don't just go replacing the meat with cheese or other dairy products. Some of the meat replacement products, eg Quorn, are great as an additional supply of protein.

Don't listen to the people who tell you we're designed to eat meat - we're not, and there's plenty of proof around to back that up!

If you want to give up meat, then good for you and more power to your elbow! I've been vegetarian for over 20 years and it makes me feel great - both physically and mentally.

Good luck with the change, and don't get disheartened if you find it difficult. Just keep coming back on here where you'll get plenty of moral support!

;-)

Study nutrition so you know what nutrients, protein and carbohydrates you need. Many vegetarian dishes are very satisfying, get a good cookbook. It's best to go for the basics - rice, lentils, sprouts, seeds, pasta, fruit and veg. There are vegetarian bodybuilders and athletes so it needn't reduce your energy. Vegetarians need vitamin B12 which is in sprouts, protein which is in dairy and carbohydrates which are in bread and potatoes.

Me too.I promised I won't eat meat again.Good luck!

As with all food, just avoid processed stuff as much as you can. Buy a good book or go on the vegetarian society's website for recipe ideas and enjoy a meat free life.
