Is a vegetarian food really help a person to slim down than normal food?
I heard many elder people say eat vegetarian food can help slimming down because there is no pork at all so eating normal food will be fatter than vegetarian food is this really true?
Answers:
If you replace your meat with cheese as a source of protein you certainly won't lose weight! Vegetarian food is not necessarily lower in fat. Definitely not!
yes. it helps you to be slim...red meat is hard to digest (pork and beef)... vegetables has lots of fibers, too... it helps to clean your stomach...but of course, it's not also good to stick to one diet because you'll lose other vitamins/minerals that your body needs.. eat meat once in a while, too
Meat-eaters who switch to vegetarianism gain less weight over a five year period than people who make no changes to their dietary habits according to a new study published* today (13 March 2006).
Cancer Research UK scientists studied the eating habits of 22,000 meat eaters, fish eaters, vegetarians and vegans of all ages over five years and compared weight gains in all these categories.
On average people gained two kilos during the period studied but the lowest weight gain was seen in those who had changed to a diet containing fewer animal foods.
Among people who did not change their diet over the five-year period the largest weight gain was in meat eaters and the smallest weight gain in vegans.
The study, conducted in Oxford, is part of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). It also found that men and women who changed their diet in the direction of meat to fish or fish to vegetarian or vegetarian to vegan showed less weight gain than those who made no dietary changes.
Professor Tim Key, deputy director of Cancer Research UK’s epidemiology unit at Oxford University, who planned the study, said: “Contrary to current popular views that a diet low in carbohydrates and high in protein keeps weight down, we found that the lowest weight gain came in people with high intake of carbohydrate and low intake of protein.
“The data also showed that people who became more physically active during the five year period gained less weight than people who did very little exercise. This confirms that the best way to prevent obesity is to combine a healthy diet with exercise.”
Overall, researchers found that during the five-year period the proportion of overweight people increased from 29.4 per cent to 34.9 per cent in men and from 19.1 per cent to 24.2 per cent in women. The proportion of obese men increased from 4 per cent to 6.9 per cent and the number of obese women from 5.7 per cent to 8.4 per cent.
Professor John Toy, medical director of Cancer Research UK, said: “EPIC continues to highlight the importance of diet and exercise in achieving a healthy weight. We know that obesity contributes to increasing the risk of cancer as it does to heart disease and diabetes.
“This study suggests that a healthy weight is easier to maintain by switching from meat to eating fish or a vegetarian diet.”

"Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."

I was Obese in junior high and I gave up red meat and pork and I slimmed down in a major way. I use ground turkey instead of ground beef, I eat turkey bacon and butterball turkey hotdogs and I don't miss anything! I eat a lot of fish which contain a healthier fat so all in all I would say yes, you just need to make sure you watch that you get the right amount of protein and it's great!
yes my tip to you if you listen very good my''Grandma and Granpa evry morning they buy a Soft Tofu Cake they sliced it to strip and boil water and pour it slowly in Tofu in a Bowl let stand for 3 minutes although they were old and careful they dont use sugar or salt they eat it like that'' and sometimes they mix it flour and fry it making a soysauce w/ vinegar w/ minch garlic, onion, tomato to melt the fat that will enter to your blood stream the vinegar will be a fat fighter and its good taste ''but today we can use Sugarfree to taste it so enjoy''boiled carrots, brocolli, asparagus Cabbage,celery,potato,chayote,... beans, corn, etcetera'' use non-fat butter''i cant believe its not butter''for nice flavor''boiled okra mix in scrambled egg whites and fry it good for munchies
Not at all. ya but if you talk about salads and meat then salads have less calories.
Gaining weight depends on many things-
1. getting more calories than required per day can add up fat in body slowly and you gain wt.
2. if you are not doing exercise then you can gain wt.
Person should take balanced diet everyday- some carbohydrates, some protein , some fat also necessary. it doent matter how you take that required carbs, fat and protein. you can be veg or non-veg to get those calories but if you take more calories than required then gain wt.
If you remember that cake and cookies and candy and baked potatoes and so on are sort of vegetables then I guess it would help
generally no because you will crave A LOT of carbs and if you don't exercise you will gain a lot of weight
Yes, it's really true.If you eat veggies, there will be no fats. But if you eat pork, you can eat a lot of fats in it.
it's true. meat and dairy make you fat, a vegetarian diet makes you skinnier. I've been Vegan for about a year now.. you'll feel better but you'll have an iron deficicency.. thats where you eat lots of salads and stuff but you're gonna be healthier and skinnier.
it helps, but then again it all depends. if you balance your diet with smartly cooked vegetables (i.e., not cooked in butter or fried) then it'll probably help you slim down. but if you're the type of vegetarian that actually dislikes vegetables (and believe me, i know some), eating things like mac and cheese or pizza, fries, etc, is not going to help you slim down at all. all of those are vegetarian choices, but they are not necessarily healthy.
many people don't eat pork, but are still overweight. pork contains a lot of saturated fat, but so do cakes and cookies, (both vegetarian selections), fried foods, etc. it all depends on how much you are smart about picking what you eat, both vegetarian or non vegetarian.
Basically, no. Do bear in mind tat vegetarian food, eg, mock duck, chicken..etc is gluten. And gluten is made from flour. Flour is high in carb.
u can take vegetarian food, but replace with the different cooked veg instead of all mock...hehehe
Try to cut down on red meat / pork / chicken / fried food, byt doing tat losing weight is also possible. Oh yah.....and also exercise regularly (we always forgot this part..heheh :-)
you call what most people eat "normal" Whats normal about raising an animal in horrid conditions, pumping it full of steroids, antibiotics, and growth hormones, causing it to develop 3 times faster than it should, killing it cruely, then eating the rotting, decaying flesh? I guess that is considered normal. but it seams odd to me. Meat has to be cooked to a certain temp to kill off bacteria and parasites. Whats "normal" about eating dead bacteria and parasites? My fruits and vegies only need a quick rinse and can be eaten in their natural state-that seams a whole lot more "normal" to me. Yes, a veggie diet can help you slim down-your body doesnt have to work overtime to digest flesh so similar to its own.
the best way to lose weight is through exercise, but diet plays a role too. it will be easier to exercise if you are not eating fast food which is full of grease and fat and cholesterol that impairs your respiratory & circulatory system. the key to losing weight is not only changing your diet, but your entire lifestyle. being a veggie certainly helps, but it is not everything.
No, vegetarian food can be high in fat.
The ideal vegetarian diet has more beans or legumes in it as well as grains and vegetables.
It is hard to eat like that though, when your body is used to higher fats and sugars.
