Vegans... a question about organic milk?!

Question:

Vegans... a question about organic milk?

hi vegans!
I have a question... is organic milk ok 4 u 2 drink?
I'm a vegan =) (love animals and will NEVER eat another one), but I can't drink soy milk, & nut and rice milks are kinda expensive.
me & my husband shop @ sams club mostly for our groceries, an they selll organic milk.
plus, my husband always worries about me, my weight, and nutrition. I tell him I'm fine with nuts (they have calcium), but he wants me 2 atleast be a vegitarian.
I CAN'T eat eggs >< I never liked them, but I wanted to try goats milk or chesse (since their is only soy chesses for vegan -.-)
any help? I really don't want to do it, but my milk problem is getting hard (no yogert, cheese, etc...) kno anywhere online they sell non-soy vegan subsitutes?
oh, as well as veggie burger w/o soy?
thankx so much!!!

Well your question is hard to answer but I once ate a cheese that looked like processed cheese and it was made of mushrooms. I guess you will have to eat the foods you hate. I was in the hospital recently because my style of eating wasn't healthy. I wasn't having enough meat and protean products. even through I hated them. I still ate them. And now I feel better than ever. If you are worried about your nutrition, try vitamin and daily supplement pills that are vegan friendly. Also it depends where you live and what foods are available. EX. If you live downtown Toronto, there are plenty of alternative stores. I don't know about anywhere else through... good luck.

Avoid relying on soymilk as it is very controversial. Try making your own almond milk at home. It is very easy: Soak 1/4 cup whole raw almonds overnight. Drain and blend with 1-2 cups warm water in the blender. Strain through cheese cloth and voila! Homemade RAW almond milk. I like to drop in a cinn. stick and some whole allspice and let chill for a few hours before consuming. Yummmm! Tell your hubby not to worry--vegans get all the nutrition they need. Just be sure to eat a balanced diet rich in baby greens, fresh and dried fruit, nuts and seeds. Be sure to eat seaweed once in a while and eat a variety of veggies. Look up The China Study by Cornell University and try www.rawfamily.com.

first of all, you dont need anyones permission to eat or drink anything. I had the same problem, and decided to find a responsible way to drink milk and eat cheese. I have a cow, and churn her fresh milk into butter and make homemade cheese using vegetarian rennet. You should be able to find a local dairy or co op that offers raw milk and dairy products. I dont recommend organic milk as it is often not much better than commercial-loads of false advertising. One organic company got in trouble because the only difference in their organic milk was that the cows were not given antibiotics like the other cows in the same factory-they were still kept in the same horrid conditions, and were found to have more diseases because of the lack of antibiotics. You can save yourself a boatload of money buy investing 50 dollars in a nutmilk maker-then you can make rice, almond, and sesame milk at home for very little money. I have a combination of almond, sweet brown rice and sesame milk brewing right now-it only takes 15 minutes, and the leftover pulp can be used to make food bars. Yummy. I live a vegan lifestyle in all other aspects, but do refer to myself as vegetarian, not vegan, out of respect for the sacrafices they make. Dont worry about fitting into a neat little label-do whats best for you-the vegan police wont come calling, I promise! I also avoid soy and use Sunshine life burgers, which are sunflower and rice based and have no soy or wheat in them. They are tasty and satisfy my hunger. Good luck!

I think before you continue you need to check on the definition of vegan. There is absolutely no point asking vegans about milk, organic or otherwise. Vegans do not consume any product from an animal, whether the animal died or not so would have no opinion on the taste/suitability of cow's milk. Equally, you say you are vegan but say you only don't eat eggs because you don't like them. If you are a true vegan you would not consider eating eggs because they come from an animal.
If, as you are suggesting, you are thinking of becoming a vegetarian instead of a vegan, then you make your own choice about drinking milk.
There is no reason why your husband should be concerned about you unless you are not looking after your own health and nutrition.
Take a good look at the Vegan Society website, link below. That should give you lots of great pointers on a healthy vegan diet and I'm pretty sure they don't assume everyone lives on soy products.
