How long can alfalfa sprouts stay good for after you buy them?
The package says they are living sprouts, but after a couple days in the refigerator they get soggy and smell funny.
Answers:
They turn sour in less than a week. They last for 3-4 days. Rinse and drain well after getting them at the store. Pat them dry gently with a paper towel.
Wrap gently in a clean paper towel. Don't use plastic bags because the sprouts start to ferment. Store in the vegetable bin of the fridge.
You're right. After maybe three days (max of four), I have to out mine, too. I don't know how to store them better unless they need to be kept in dryer, airier conditions like lettuce does. Perhaps we should empty them out of the bag and into a lettuce-crisper type container.
