Do you consider shellfish (seafood) as meat?!

Question:

Do you consider shellfish (seafood) as meat?

okay, so i turned a vegetarian about 3 months ago and ever since then, my two friends at school seem to keep attacking me about things that relate to meat, milk?, and animals. they dont even listen to what I have to say because they dont like the idea that I dont eat meat anymore. anyways, one conversation we had, my friend (i've known for 15 years) told me he doesnt know why i dont just eat seafood. he said "there are vegetarians thar eat shellfish!" and i said that shellfish is meat. he said he didint consider shellfish to be meat. but meat is meat, right? do you consider shellfish to be meat? he makes no sense to me.

Answers:
Some people who consider themselves vegetarian eat fish. I consider it meat.

Turn the attack around and ask your friends why they eat meat. I'm sure they are unaware of some of the horrible practices that still exist in the manufacturing of meat and meat products.

Or continue the discussion with, "Some vegetarians eat dairy products, some don't. Some veggies eat eggs, some don't. Some vegetarians eat chicken and poultry. There are many kinds of vegetarians and I don't choose to follow the crowd by eating meat or shellfish. I choose to lead by following my conscience and abstain from consuming animals raised or caught for human consumption."

I consider it a meat or probably better yet, a meat replacement

Is shellfish a plant?

Is it a fungus?

What is left?

Love and blessings Don

There are different levels of vegetarianism. I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. I do eat cheeses and enjoy various dairy products. Vegans choose not to eat any products that directly come from any animals including honey. Shellfish or any fish is considered to be non-vegetarian. When someone eats any living thing, they are carnivores not vegetarians.

yes its meat

Yes, shellfish are animals so they would be considered meat.

'vegetarians' that eat fish are not vegetarians. fish is meat, your right. people who eat fish as their only form of meat are called piscivores .

oh and dont let your friends' comments ever make you feel bad about your lifestyle choice! being vegetarian is wonderful.

YES!
Any fish is meat.

yes, shellfish is a meat... anything that came from animals are meat...

If it is the flesh of a dead animal (and considering that fish IS a dead animal) then yes, it is meat. So your friend is wrong; vegetarians and vegans do not eat fish.

Shellfish is an animal and therefore is meat. A true vegetarian eat no animal flesh. Some consider themselves vegetarian but are really pescatarian (eats only fish), or semi vegetarian (eats no red meat, only fish and poultry).

Of course shellfish is meat. Anything edible that derives from the flesh of animals is considered meat.
