Craving Meat?!

Question:

Craving Meat?

Help! I just recently decided to give up meat, and have not ate it for about a week. Now my co-worker is having lunch in our office and is eating a pepperoni stuffed calzone. It smells so good I'm tempted.....what do I do?

Answers:

If you are dedicated to being a vegetarian don't eat meat! Look up some really yummy veggie recipes. AND eat vegetarian foods! Good Luck!

Try some meatless 'meat'. Morningstar farms makes some really tasty meatless hamburgers and meat crumbles.

Whenever you see meat, try to visual the animal. That should stifle your appetite for it.

Like the previous poster said, good veggie food is the best solution to non-veggie cravings. Get some cookbooks, find a food co-operative/store with good produce, and enjoy!

And if you still have cravings, check out some of the meat analogues (imitation meats) that are out there. Some taste so much like the real things its eerie.

i have the same problem
just don't be tempted
for lunch you can eat very delicious veggies that are way better than pepperoni
pepperoni is high in fat (just to let you know)
it may seem tempting but try to deal with it
its really hard that you want to give up meat but it just taste good at the same time you feel bad about eating it.
well
good luck!

If you have not eaten meat for only a week, of course you will want it when you smell it. It comes down to your own choice. As a carnivore with lots of friends that are vegetarian, I try to honor their wishes by not comsuming meat in front of them. Many find it quite offensive. You're pretty much on your own here. You can't expect your friends and co-workers to suddenly give up what they like just because you made a good choice.

How about making a lunch the night before, with awesome smelling ingredients, such as onions, garlic, peppers, ginger, or whatever appeals to you, with your food. I'll bet when you nuke it (if you can), the aromas will entice your co-workers into being jealous of your good lunch.

here you go this is gross ,but it always works.
YOUR ARE ABOUT TO EAT FLESH GUTS BRAINS DEATH DEATH DEATH BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD DIE DIE DIE DEAD ANIMAL!!!!!!! im not kidding! that always work when i first bwhen vegetarian. hope it works for you, too!

When you see the meat think about the animal and its life and how it was slaughtered. Also maybe you should bring some vegan snacks to eat and share.

if you are truely dedicated to being a vegetarian, you wont cave, but im not going to cave in because i know that for the first couple of weeks of my being a vegetrarin where very hard.

first things firsrt, when you see somebody bighting into a piece of meat, imagine them bighting into a live...whatever the animal once was.
second of all, since you have only been a vegetarian for a week, you might still have some meat products in your house....get rid of them now
to some its a comfort, but i highly dont recomend eating veggie burgers for about a month of your being a vegetarian,, you really should try and FORGET about what its like to eat meat and veggie burgers will make that harder...

good luck!

I think the best way to put an end to the cravings is to be really clear why you're giving it up. For me its ethical, and a hefty dose of factory farm torture/slaughter/skinning/etc videos and pictures did the trick me for me, pretty much overnight. I can't look at meat/dairy/eggs without conjuring up those images and feeling really turned off.

If you're doing it for health reasons, then immerse yourself in info and pictures of all the diseases and obesity animal products can cause. It really does work!

i've recently started eating veggie burgers. they are yummy, especially on some whole-wheat bread. anytime my parents make meat, i ask them to make me a veggie burger or make it myself. find a substitute for meat basically.

First, you need to analyze the reasons why you decided to give up meat. Was it because you wanted to make a statement about the ethical treatment of animals? Because you didn't like it? You wanted to experiment with a different diet? You thought it was healthier?
Being vegetarian is both a combination of choice and beliefs. Every vegetarian has his/her own set of beliefs about why they believe being vegetarian is right for them.
When you are at work and you smell the pepperoni, think about the reason why you decided to go vegetarian and think about if it's worth it to eat the meat. If you believe that you became vegetarian because you wanted animals to be treated ethically, than think about the animal and how it was killed and the life that it lead.
Whatever you do though, do not feel bad. Some people I know have tried to go vegetarian but it was too difficult. It does not make you a less of a person if you cannot be vegetarian. Maybe in a month or a year, you'll decide to try again.
Do what you believe is right. There is no wrong answer.

:)

Hey! relax! Trusat in your self and your commitment! I know what you are feeling! The very week that I committed to going veggie, my family dragged me to a Rib and Chilli festival! All those barbeques drove me crazy!!!! But, take a deep breath and step out of the room, and remember who you are! You can fight this!
