healthy eaters non vegitarians if they eat both veggies and meat

Vegetables are great when they are served with meat!

the one who eates fresh vegetables.

There are pro and cons to both.

i think vegetarians lives longer because they're smart

Most Vegetarians that I know of that are old are health at the age of 88 and as for meat eaters around that age they are not as healthy! Also I've had an uncle and a Aunt they both lived to 108 while one of my Grandfathers lived to 112.. They were mostly vegetarian. They hardly ate any meat!
So from what I see and know I would say vegetarians who eat properly and don't eat any meat at all will live longer!

I dont think its just about what you eat. Its also about lifestyle.

My husbands grandmother is 87 and is in really good shape. There isnt anything that can stop the woman! And she eats meat.

I also dont think its fair to say that vegetarians are smarter than meat eaters. Just because you choose to live like that, doesnt make you a genius.

Plus, isnt fish "brain food"?

Hey There,
My girlfriend and I always have this argument. Statistically speaking Vegetarians live longer longer than non-vegetarians.
There's a great Winston Churchill quote "There are lies, Damn lies, and statistics". Unfortunately the statistics lump a vegetarian cultures in Asia that are known to live past 100 regularly with the south-west where meat is king and the life expectancy is short.
I can't tell you what the truth is, but in my mind, moderation is key. You don't need meat at every meal, especially cutting down red meat, but cutting meat out of your diet altogether is not neccesarily a boon. Adding a 1/2 chicken breast to a salad or stir-fry does not greatly increase the fat content, and greatly increases the protein.

Good luck
Eric

Statistically speaking, Any group of people that consume meat less often than plants will be healthier. Most of the world for the longest time deemed meat as a luxery of the very rich.many asian cultures even though not necessarily fully vegetarian still eat FAR less meat than their western counterparts. Americans live longer usually due to our plethora of pharmeceuticals and surgeries to fix something that could easily have been prevented by diet. Even Japan is starting to see in increase in their waistlines because they have adopted more western eating practices. So statistically speaking, vegetarianism gives you an edge. Okinawans are known you live the longest and they have a moderate life style full of plants with occassional fish. Humans who eat mostly meat consume alot of unnecessary things like cholesterol which is only found in animals. It's only found in animals because your body makes it on its own. What animal products never have is fiber which you need from plants. Without sufficient fiber you are at risk for colon problems. Alot of people consume more meat than they do plants which is lopsided. Americans and western countries tend to consme far past their requirement for protein. Excess protein actually causes calcium deficiency. This fear about not enough protein in our diets is a myth. So much so that NO nutrition label will tell you what percentage you should be getting becasue chances are you consume too much anyway(just like sugar). Basically there are of core genetic factors involved but it's not just how long you live but also the quality of life you want to live. My great grandma had a typical southern diet and lived to about 104 but she always was sitting down in her room doing nothing all day. We have a genetic predispostion to live up to 100 but the quality of that life is often determined by how you took care of yourself in youth. My grandmother has hypertension due to her southern diet. My mother and I both have blood pressure on the lower end since I'm a vegetarian and she doesn't consume much animal products due to her doctors suggestion. She had issues with inflammation and pain which is often caused by animal products. She chose to change her diet instead of taking painkillers for the rest of her life. So I'd say vegetarians and non-vegetarians who consume very little meat(very infrequent like once a weeK).
