Have any recent vegetarians tried to do a "cleanse" shortly after going veg.?!
Have any recent vegetarians tried to do a "cleanse" shortly after going veg.?
I've been vegetarian since Thanksgiving 2006.
In October 2006, I did a cleanse. I paid $100 for the kit from drnatura.com and it worked wonderfully to clean out all the nasty plaque that was adhered to the lining of my intestinal tracts. It was one of those fasting cleanses. It lasted 5 days where all I had was organic apple juice mixed with this powder stuff like 5 times a day and I also took these digestive stimulator capsules. Anyway, a lot of NASTY stuff came out of me.
Anyway, now that I'm vegetarian, I'm wondering what it will be like when I do my next cleanse.
Any recent vegatarians want to comment on this? I can only imagine all the animal byproduct buildup that is clinging to my insides!! I just want it out of me but I want to know what to expect!!

Yup, I am a veg and I have done a fasting cleanse twice in the past two years. Both times it was at a spa (in Bali and Thailand) both were full programs with colonic irrigation (similar to an enema.)
Even though I don't eat meat, or dairy, there are still somethings that build up on your intestinal wall and colon. Carbohydrates and other things can stick.
Also, it takes many more than one cleansing to completely clear out all the plaque. I have heard it can take some people seven years of fasting twice a year before all of their plaque is gone.
lol ew?
It sounds like in such cases you would detoxify. This can happen too quickly and actually make you more sick.
Make sure if you are detoxifying to take plenty of antioxidants to avoid free radical damage. Slow and easy should be the mantra of someone wanting to radically change their dietary habits.
Don't get me wrong. I do encourage the vegan and other health lifestyles. Just make sure you transition with mindfulness else you might get discouraged.
I had never thought to do that o.O The thought of it kind of creeps me out, to be honest.
Personally, I found that by going veggie, my body took over and cleansed itself. Where I used to only have a BM every day or two, I now go after every meal, as we are meant to do. Think of babies-before we go stopping them up with meat, they move their bowels on a regular basis-after every meal. You could try the cleanse again, but I think the price is unnecessary. If you juice fruits and veggies with a juice extractor, the enzymes will scrub you good and clean. I juice carrots, celery, parsley, cucumber, swiss chard, beets and apples (or some other combo) twice a day. It feels great! You could by a juice extractor for a whole lot less than the 100 you paid for your cleanse, and would get years of use out of it. Homegrown sprouts are great to juice to. What I like about juicing, is that you do it on a daily basis-not just once in awhile for a quick flush. Loads of fresh, quality spring or steam distilled water is great too. Good luck, whichever option you choose.
