Meat substitute?!

Meat substitute?

i've just became a vegetarian and me and my brother are wondering what you can subsitude meat for thanks

Answers:
Meat is a source for protein. Before becoming a full-time vegetarian you need to research carefully the best way to replace meat protein so that your body gets all the benefits of what you are trying to accomplish.

Beans, Lentils, Soy, Tofu are all good protein sources. However, for your body to fully benefit from the protein in beans, for example, you must include a green leafy vegetable like Kale, Spinach, Chard or the like with the meal. Otherwise, you are not digesting the full spectrum of protein. Grains also contain some protein but not enough without other protein sources. Make sure you are not allergic or do not have celiac disease (cannot digest gluten) before you embark on a strictly vegetarian diet.

For 10 years I followed a strict vegetarian diet and was very ill and had to add meat back in when I started suffering from severe diarrhea and arthritis of the hip. After serious allergy tests, I was allergic to every grain, anything that grows in a pod, soy, pineapple, and more. I eliminated all the things I was allergic to (which were all the things I liked the most) and now 8 years later I am stronger and healthier. So if you itch or have skin or digestive trouble after starting on your vegetarian journey get food allergy tests and eliminate the foods you are allergic to.

You may want to consider adding fresh, organic juices as a first step in your diet - Juice For Life is an excellent book with healthy juice recipes - this would improve your skin and digestion. Also, eliminate any products containing sweeteners like aspartame, nutrasweet, and corn syrup. Those are potential harmful additives especially when you are attempting to clean up your body. So read and study a lot about vegetarianism and ENJOY - fresh, organic and pure is the way to go.

Tofu (--,)

Quorn is very nice and versatile. You can get it as mince to make bolognese and shepherds pie or as fillets that you can use instead of chicken breast in many recipes.

Congratulations, it is a healthy choice... It depends on what king of a vegan are you as there are different vegans, permitting different foods that are allowed and not.
Most substitute for meat would be 'meat' made from soy based products. Some of them are made to look like the meat products itself and they are delicious. It may take some people a little adjustment to it, unless of course you fancy tofu products.

you can use soya chunks and soya granules whereever you are using minced meat

Congratulations. Welcome to the club. If you have the right tools you can be a full vegan in one day. If you count with a good support family/friends. Gluten is a great substitute for meat. and also Soy Meat. Good Luck!

I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so I eat Boca meatless burgers & chick'n patties. Make sure to check the label though - some are totally vegan, while some have dairy products in them, if only small amounts. I prefer any of the Boca burgers, the original chick'n patties, and Morning Star veggie dogs. They take less than two minutes in the microwave and I'm sure they taste even better if you use the oven. I can eat more foods NOW as a vegetarian (trying to go vegan) than I could when I ate meat .... I never ate burgers because of the fat content, and now I don't feel guilty when eating a meatless burger! :)

if you are in canada, try the Yves veggie gourmet products. You would find them in the produce department at the grocery store. Meat substitutes take some getting used to, but can be really good if you prepare them well. Try the 'veggie ground round' which is like ground beef. You have to add spices, but you can make things like tacos, 'meat sauce' for pasta and other familiar foods until you work your way up to other tofu products.

Also- eggs and nuts are great sources of protein. Just be sure you are getting enough iron- if you used to eat a lot of red meat, you may feel sluggish while your body adjusts.
