Fried tofu help?!
Fried tofu help?
got a deep fryer and got my firm tofu(after pressing water from it)sliced it, and used some garlic powder and chilli powder and soy sauce on it and then deep fried it and it tasted bland and rubbery. should i marinate it first to infuse flavors and should i coat it with something before frying and if so
please give me marinade and coating recipes.
thank you

Marinating it sound helpful. I really don't have an answer.
I just wanted to say your Avatar scares the beejeebers out of me.
I'd counsel you to avoid the deep fryer.
Instead, use a good nonstick pan. Coat the bottom with a little bit of oil (peanut or something else that likes temperature), and tumble your tofu cubes into it. Sautee over high heat, shaking or stirring or turning often to prevent burning. Stop when brown (I prefer a golden tan color, but others may think less or more cooking is tastier).
Then put the seasonings directly onto the warm tofu.
(This is what I do with the tofu for a favorite summer dish, Gado Gado, a Polynesian style salad with a spicy peanut dressing. Recipe in one of the Diet/Recipes for a Small Planet series)
neither
here's my experience and my friend and i just love it.
1. cut the tofu into bite-size
2. deep fry them til it turns to golden color
3. sprinkle with some spiced salt (only)
(spiced salt can be found at asian supermarket)
I coat the slices with flour and deep fry them in a cast iron skillet. The cast iron heats up really hot, so it'll cook faster and maybe not end up as rubbery.
