Need advice on my vegetarian problem...?!

Question:

Need advice on my vegetarian problem...?

I was a vegetarian for almost a year. Then I joined the Army National Guard and knew I needed to put on weight, I barely made the requirement. I do eat, don't get me wrong, I eat all the time. I think about what Im doing to the poor animals everyday, but I can't push myself to be that person again. Any ideas?

Answers:
DO NOT let anyone tell you you can not be a vegetarian and be in our armed forces .. many moons ago .. I was in the army .. spent three years and was combat force trained .. lived in the woods every other month for a full 30 days ..did that for a year .. then on and off base .. the military not only has a lot of vegetarian food but if you chose not to eat base food they will give you an allowance for your eating beliefs to buy your own food ....as they did with me .. I did not lose any more then a small amount of weight when I was living out in the woods ..and survival training .. my unit was a readiness unit and trained heavily.. you can do it ..the same determination it is taking for you to be in the military is the same determination you can put into being a vegetarian again ... eat a lot when you are allowed and eat foods higher in fat content since you may have a very fast metabolism ...but pastas and rice dishes and potatoes are great to add weight , do not expect anything special ... as that would not be unfair to all soldiers ..but YOU CAN DO IT !! and last the other soldiers accepted this with no problem and when I resided off base I had at least ten (normally omnivores) to dinner every night ..all veggie food and they Loved it .. Now go and do it !

vegan forever ..PS ..I was regular army and did it .. you are a strong woman

If your trying to be push yourself to be a meat eater than just think, God put those animals on this earth for us to have food, but if your not able to bring yourself to do that then just stay on the vegian diet your on. There is nothing wrong with your preference of food whatever makes you satified is all that matters.

Carbs are your friend! They will go a long way toward keeping your energy up (at least in the short term).

Unless you are averse, dairy, cheese and eggs are excellent sources of the protein your new, exercised body is screaming for.

Tofu and quorn (look this up, it's worth it!) could also figure prominently in your new diet if you are ovo-lacto negative.

Don't forget about fats, too! Avocado and many types of oils should help your hungries become a thing of the past. Poke around, and don't hesitate to ask. The military of today is not like that of bygone days... all spam and strong coffee.

You may find more like-minded folk in your unit that you think!

Best wishes!

Substitute your proteins and fats with beans, nuts, tofu, etc. You can also try those shake-style supplements that are meant to assist with healthy weight gain.

From what I understand, the military is obligated to provide you with nurishment that fits your personal beliefs and have many vegetarian meal options nowadays.

Its really personal preference.. If you like meat and enjoy eating it than EAT IT! But if every time you eat it you feel so guilty that you dont even enjoy it. Than dont eat it. There are plenty of different ways to "bulk up" start lifting weights or somthing. The way i look at it is that they're animals. and they're going to get eaten anyways.

Plenty of carbs, fried foods, cheeses - etc - anything high in fat. If that's not enough to put the weight on, try some of those supplements from GNC - weight gain, etc. They are effective on packing on the pounds.

Do what I did, put your trust in God and leave the armies of this world as fast as you can. I had that same problem, I joined the Army Reserves, and I was a complete vegan, yet, when I went in, not wanting to, I felt I had to eat meat. When I got out of training and back to the civilian world, I realized how far my moral and health standards had dropped. I knew that if I stayed in the military, I could not retain my allegiance for God at the same time. In the military you have to obey the dictates of man, but in God's army, you must obey the dictates of Him, who knows no error. This might sound like an impossibility, but I just stopped going to training and completely dropped it without any notice. They have not said anything to me, all praise be to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that still ruleth in the heavens. If you tell them, most likely the only thing they will understand is the name written on the contract that basically says that your soul is in their hands. Any contract made in ignorance that will keep you from following the commandments of God, you can make void without any repurcutions on the side of righteousness. May the Lord bless your endevors.

Vegetarians piss me off

this may sound harsh (and its definitly not trying to be)

but...
if you really believe that being a vegan is right, them maybe the Navy isnt for you

For packing on the pounds: make yourself some protein shakes (fruit, soy protein, soy milk), eat cliff bars, eat nuts (high in fat, especially brazil nuts), how about chinese food or indian food?, fry things in oil that you might otherwise bake or steam...

Oh, if only this were my problem!

Joing the army conflicts with my belief in non-violence, but that is your choice. I'm only posting here to show you a link of what a human body can achieve with veganism. This shows that vegans are not weak at all, when eating right and exercising.
