Protein vitamins?!

Question:

Protein vitamins?

i have decied not to eat meat any more. can someone tell me vitamins i can take to make up for the protein im lossing?

Answers:
beans+rice make a complete protein

There are some proteins that you can't get anywhere but meat... but it's not 100% necessary to have those... eggs are a good source, though. Egg whites especially. You can also get big things of protein powder at places like Trader Joe's, the Vitamin Shoppe, etc.

If you are going to be a vegetarian, but not a vegan, I do suggest you drink unpasteurized cow milk or goat milk for nutrients. Plain yogurt is also full of protein and nutrients. Eat lentils, black beans, white beans, lima beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, navy beans, pinto beans, etc in place of meats. Walnuts, almonds, pumpkins seeds, and etc. have the fat and protein you need also.
Don't take supplemental vitamins. You really don't need those unless you have a health problem. You can get all nutrients you need in the food you eat.
To get other vitamins just eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. It is nice to try new things routinely.
Winter squash, broccoli, onions, romaine lettuce, blueberries, apples, cantaloupe. . .
Whole wheat breads, cream of wheat, oatmeal, corn, brown rice, are all good grains.
I hope you do well healthwise.

It's a very popular question. You will not be losing protein; just getting it from somewhere else. All plant life and all living things are packed full of protein. Meat industry propaganda has tricked people into believing that only certain nutrients can be gotten from meat and nowhere else, but of course that's all bunk. You even hear people using the words 'meat' and 'protein' interchangeably. Beans easily have more protein than any meat, and spinach easily has more iron than any meat and they are easy to digest and utilize. It wasn't too long ago that to grow up big and strong Tommy must eat his spinach just like Popeye. You can see just how much the meat industry has taken over the minds of people in N. America in the last 50 years. Protein has become a key-word. Just remember, humans make their own protein from amino acids that are collected and stored from the foods we eat. Amino acids are the answer. Whole proteins are broken down into usable amino acids, thus it takes more energy and nutrients to consume whole proteins than amino acids. So, forget vitamins and just eat some good whole foods and you'll get all you need.

I'm a vegetarian, and without soy I would STARVE.

It's extremely versatile. Soymilk, tofu, edamame, fake "meats", non-dairy ice cream... yeah, you can do just about anything with soy.

Going vegetarian is a great choice. However, I would start out slowly.

Maybe be a pesco-vegetarian (I think that's the fancy term for it), a fish-eating vegetarian for a while. Or be a "near-vegetarian" and cut out red meat, then poultry, then fish, and if you're planning on becoming vegan, eggs, and then finally milk.

Sometimes it can get complicated though. There's a ton of animal-derived ingredients out there that are harder to identify (gelatin, some stearic acids, datems, and monoglycerides, some glycerins, and rennet.)

Don't worry about that for now, just start out moderately.

You dont need supplements. Just eat whole grains, legumes, nuts and a variety of other foods. Everything has protein in it but the first 3 I mentioned are great and easy to get sources.

You are not losing any protein. Its just a myth made up by meateaters.

I'm an arable farmer, work outside half the time, am perfectly fit and strong, been veggie for 27 years.

no vits, no supplements. Just a balanced diet.

Protein is no more important than any other element in our food. When people have a craving for protein, it is really an addictive craving for cooked protein. Cooked protein does not feed the body. You can get all the protein you need from raw plant food -- yes, even fruit has protein. How is it that a cow can grow hundreds of pound of protein flesh from simple grass which hardly contains any protein at all? It is not protein that is necessary to develop proteins in your body, but the essential amino acids which are present in raw fruits and vegetables. The mass frenzy on the subject of protein is the product of an elaborate media campaign by the meat and dairy industries to push their products. The truth is no one ever suffers from a protein deficiency -- and certainly no one ever dies from one. But people die of protein poisoning en masse every day. Heart attacks, strokes, cancer, etc. are all the inevitable results of overburdening the body with cooked animal proteins.
