Cooking with Quorn?!
Cooking with Quorn?
I have some good recipes for Chicken Vindaloo, and Coronation Chicken but because I'm on Slimming World diet, wanted to try cooking this with the Quorn substitute for cooking.
I've only managed to find the frozen chicken pieces so just wondered if I have to defrost it before I add them to any recipe first?
Also, if I cook a curry with Quorn, can I re-heat it the next day and it still be ok?

I've been a veggie for almost 15 years and i've done slimming world too!
Quorn is an awesome substitue for chicken especially on slimming world. it can be cooked from frozen or defrosted (it just takes longer if frozen) or you can buy the chilled version and can be reheated easily.
Quorn curries are great, you can also make quorn bolognaise, quorn chilli (with the mince), quorn pasta bake and just about anything else you normally do with meat and its all sin free!
enjoy!
You can get quorn from the chiller cabinet as well as the frozen one. I use both the mince and the chunks from frozen - like meat, give them a bit of a sizzle (I don't use any oil, just a hot pan!) in the pan first and then use whatever sauce you like. It's fine the next day, too! Enjoy!!
Yes to all. I am constantly using it and it still takes good if you freeze it! Yum!!! Enjoy.
No need to defrost and yes, keep it in the fridge and reheat it the next day..try the Quorn mince in chillis...or spag bol
With the pieces i just chuck them in but the fillets i like to defrost and then seal. Should be ok to reheat as long as you don't leave it out for the cat to lick
I have cooked from frozen before and it was fine. Just make sure it is cooked through though. Fine to reheat the next day or the day after. In fact, if you are a cooking curry then two days after is even better as the quorn becomes even more flavourable.
I've used pretty much everything in the Quorn range and it's fine to use the pieces and mince from frozen. They need a lot less cooking than meat, and it's fine to re-heat the finished dish.
My daughter is a veggie, the only one in the house, so I tend to cook a large batch of, say, sweet and sour quorn (pieces) and freeze it in several plastic containers to save cooking time later.
I would just add that when you reheat the dish, do it gently, especially in a microwave as the quorn pieces tend to explode!
cook it from frozen and yes it can be reheated
but it tastes like crap.
better offf using veg its healthier too
Nope, you do not have to defrost them but you can if you want. I saute mine before I put in casseroles though
First of all yes you can reheat Quorn, i have done now for a few years, i use the Quorn from the chiller section if i want to use it soon if not i just leave it for couple of hours to dethaw.I am also on the Slimming World diet, and i also substitute Quorn for all the meat dishes, Meat balls, Scotch eggs,Lasagnas, Shepard's pies, curries etc.i think the green days are more filling.best of luck with the diet.
Use chicken instead- much nicer.
