While just about every vegetarian food contains some protein, the soybean deserves special mention, for it contains all the essential amino acids and surpasses all other food plants in the amount of protein that it can deliver to the human system. In this regard, it is nearly equal to meat. The human body is able to digest 92 percent of the protein found in meat and 91 percent of that found in soybeans.7
The many different and delicious soy products (such as tempeh, soy "hot dogs" and "burgers," Tofutti brand "ice cream," soy milk, and tofu) available in health and grocery stores suggest that the soybean, in its many forms, can accommodate a wide range of tastes.
Raw protein sources
Other rich sources of non-animal protein include legumes, nuts, seeds, yeast, and freshwater algae. Although food yeasts ("nutritional yeast" and "brewer’s yeast") do not lend themselves to forming the center of one's diet, they are extremely nutritious additions to most menus (in soups, gravies, breads, casseroles, and dips). Most yeasts get about 50 percent of their calories from protein.8
Here are some examples of vegetarian foods with high sources of plant protein:
PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas
PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice
VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini
PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon
hemp protein source PROTEIN IN NUTS AND SEEDS: Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts (black)
One excellent ingredient to look for is hemp seed protein. Hemp seed is an nutritious dietary source of easily digestible gluten-free protein. It provides a well-balanced array of all the amino acids, including 34.6 grams of protein for each 100 grams. The fatty acid profile of the hemp seed is extremely beneficial, containing omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a virtually ideal ratio. Other beneficial aspects of hemp seed include a strongly favorable unsaturated-to-saturated fat ratio; a high content of antioxidants; and a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.

Additionally, superior green foods provide an excellent source of protein (70% in some cases).
happy eating!

Nuts and beans! You know baked beans on toast has as much protein as a fillet of steak! so beans and nuts would be your best option.
I believe the highest protein levels can be found in Quinoa which can be cooked like rice.
If you're a vegetarian that eats animal products, just not meat, then there are a few options for you. Eggs are an excellent source of protein - just make sure you eat the yolk, since that's where the protein is. Beans are another good option, and there are a lot of ways to fix them. There's always the veggie/soy burgers and hot dogs, and dairy products are also relatively high in protein.
If you can, however, you should try to eat lean poultry or fish, on occasion, since this has the best protein-to-fat ratio. Once a week or every couple weeks, you should at least try a 3-oz portion. It's also good for omega-3's (fish) and other healthy nutrients and minerals.
Best of luck!
Tofu=yuck! Try a variety of nuts and nutbutters. Are you drinking milk? Don't forget the calcium. You are still growing and you don't want to damage your health.
Check out "Diet for a Small Planet," a classic vegetarian cookbook which laid out the theory of protein in the vegetarian diet. It has wonderful recipes based upon the author's study of human protein requirements. She explains how usable protein is made of many amino acids in balance, and that by combining vegetables carefully, one can obtain abundant high quality protein.
So there is typically no single source for balanced protein (except perhaps milk and nuts), but rather combined sources that ensure complete protein.
Her work also considered the typical American diet as wasteful of world resources because of its over reliance on beef, an extremely inefficient method of creating protein, in her view.
Some grocery stores havee very good food made with tofu , in the freezer section.
I like Morning Star Farms products.
They have burgers, chicken patties, chicken nuggets, sausage patties and links.bacon.
I really like the chicken nuggets , the patties are good too, if you put them on a bun with mayo , tomato and lettuce.
All these products are made from tofu, or soy beans.
Also you can get protein from:
Peanut butter
Eggs
Nuts
Diary Products, If you use them
Good luck with your diet, you'll feel better and be healthier.I've done this myself.
Lentils tend to have good protein, so do nuts, cheese, milk, and beans. I am a vegetarian teen also and so is my family. If you just eat these things on a regular basis you should be fine. Protein isn't very low on the food pyramid. If you don't, I don't really know what else there is besides tofu
Whole grain items, beans, nuts are great for protein but virtually everything has protein in it...even veggies.
Many Vegetarians That are cautious about all meat products are called Vegans, They won't eat meat, or meat products; like egg's and milk. The vitamin B complex 12 is the needed vitamin for a vegetarianism meal. You may have all the food groups in the food pyramid, including meat if you eat legumes, these are like tofu, beans, and peanuts, they are a great way to provide the Nutrients of a Healthy balanced vegetarian meal,
COTTAGE CHEESE! I used to think cottage cheese looked so gross and never wanted to try it, but I tried it a few months ago and I love it. I eat it all the time with peaches. It is also good with pinapple and other fruits.
Drink a shake of Raw power in the morning. It's raw, and has tons of protein to keep you going. Hope this helps! -question001
