Vegan: eliminate all foods from animals, including meat, poultry, fish, milk, eggs and cheese. They eat only plant-based foods.
Lacto-vegetarian: consume milk and milk products along with plant-based foods. They omit eggs as well as meat, fish and poultry.
Lacto-ovo vegetarian: omit red meat, fish and poultry but eat eggs, milk and milk products, such as cheese and yogurt, in addition to plant-based foods.

A vegan diet uses the least amount of natural resources because they use no animal products. A lacto/lacto-ovo vegetarian diet still requires animals to be kept alive, which takes up resources and produces waste (although it's still much better than an omnivorous diet- the water needed to produce a pound of wheat in the USA is 14 gallons whereas the water needed to produce a pound of beef is 441 gallons. By not eating 1 pound of beef, you save more water than you would by not showering for a year).
Also keep in mind that the term "vegetarian" sometimes refers to pure vegetarianism which is veganism. Actually, vegetarians were originally vegans. Bit complicated :)
You didn't mention fruitarian. Fruitarians eat vegetables only and only if they fell off the plant dead, they believe picking vegetables is murder.
I am omnivore
Fruitarian. Only eat things that fall off of plants or trees without killing plants.
How about a normal, balanced, OMNIVOROUS diet?
You vegans are destroying the ozone layer with all that gas!
PS:
I'll bet all you mopes who gave me a "thumbs down" are all self-righteous vegans who sniff their own farts. None of us "evolved" folk would be here if it wasn't for our ancestors eating meat. Get over your pretentious selves. Have a charred rare steak and LIVE a little...
I don't think it's really better for the enviorment. But, you do spare a few helpless animals!
Oh and also Vegans don't wear clothes that are made of materials that comes form animals[[which i don't do either!]], and they don't eat honey.

Veganism is the best choice, it is obvious when you compare it all. It is worth realising that dairy industry and meat industry are one and the same. You cant have cows milk without supporting the slaughtering of the calves. You cant have any of that without supporting animal farming. Animal farming is bad for enviroment. Very simple.
But still being a vegetarian is much better than eating meat. THe way I see it, it's a transition stage. Many vegetarians including myself, eventually decide to become vegans. So we shouldnt really criticise them, just be patient. I didnt become a vegan because someone made me do it.
:)
Vegan is the obvious answer out the options provided. Factory farming (as is necessary in milk and egg production on a large scale) is very hard on the environment.
