Help!! Should I worry or not?!

Question:

Help!! Should I worry or not?

I'm a vegan. (just turned recently from vegetarian)
Yesterday I thought bout not eating the sweet and sour sauce that I had in my fridge that I usually put on the tofu that I have. I had called te company and they told me that they have no records of anything having gone through a bone char.
I decided not to eat it just in case. The only thing is, is that I was eating some tofu today from the container and I thought about the possible contamination of sauce. Undoutedly there was probably traces of the sauce in the container, even though I had emptied out the water.
I thought about this as I was taking a bite of tofu. After I finished eating the piece of tofu I felt bad because I thiink I should have spit it out if I had been really thinking. Have I committed a crime in veganism?
And I never washed my hands after touching the container. What if I have animal byproduct contamination all over the room now??? I'm really OCD, so I'm not sure if that's what's causing this panic.

Hey its okay... you can calm down :). The sweet and sour sauce doesn't have anything not allowed in vegan-ism, and calling the company confirmed that. If you still feel like you shouldn't eat the sauce, you shouldn't worry about contamination. Some companies are pretty bad about this kind of stuff, but being a vegan is all about making your decisions about the food you eat. Calm down and get rid of anything you're not comfortable eating, so this won't happen again.

Dont worry about it, its just your OCD.

It makes me sad to read of your distress over this. There's nothing "criminal" in veganism or any other chosen dietary regimen. Take a deep breath and try to focus on WHY you are a vegan in first place---------it's probably for a combination of health reasons and ethical concerns, right?
And you're committed to that! Some little incident like this does nothing to change your commitment. If anything, you're jeopardizing your health more by obsessing over it.

And by the way, I am also a vegetarian, lapsing in and out of total veganism. It's important to remember that this is a goal that we have chosen for our own lives, not a military order, and a little slip is not even close to being a life-or-death matter.

well, there is the Chance you have committed a crime, so you May as well eat a big juicy steak and try to forget about it

You're just being very OCD. The sauce is probably fine.

i eat meat but i undastand where u comen from its no meat in sauces like dat but calm down its just da ocd dont worry

First of all dont panic! Always remember that veganism is your choice and it's up to you. If you make a mistake no one is going to punish you. So take it easy.

You said you turned vegan recently, but in time you will learn what to eat and what not to eat and you'll get used to your new diet. It doesnt take long before you learn what products are 100% vegan.

But mistakes do occur. Veganism is not about perfection but compassion. We can do only as much as we are aware of. So when you eat something thats not vegan without knowing, learn from your mistake and move on.

Good luck!
