Meat alternatives in UK stores?!
Meat alternatives in UK stores?
I have only recently become a vegan and one way I was hoping to ease myself into it was by eating 'fake meat'. However Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda etc, only seem to sell Quorn products which is no good as it contains egg. Any other suggestions?

Hi.
There's a company called Realeat and if you're lucky you can find their products (mince and "meat" pieces) in the freezer sections of large stores - next to Quorn, green re-sealable bags.
I get most of my "fake meat" products from a local store that specialises in organic/healthy/vegan foods (and other products). There are vegan sausages and cutlets, vegan cheeses, a variety of tofus (smoked ones are yummy) and seitan products (good stuff!).
I sometimes also buy vegan "sage and onion slices" in Morissons (fridge; that seems to be the only vegan product they have, though).
And if you're looking for any comfort food, soya yogurts are great, AlproSoya custards are even better and Plamil does a great vegan chocolate spread.
It is really difficult to find vegan ice-creams though.
Hope this helps.

Gee, where's all the UK regulars? I know that in the UK there is a company called Redwood Foods, I've had the impression that the grocers you list carried them! Here's a link to them:

As mentioned, Redwood is a good company (they also make Cheezly!), but I have never seen their products at Sainsbury's etc. You can get them along with other vegan faux meats at health food shops such as Fresh & Wild and Holland & Barrett.
