I eat fish, but other than that I'm vegan. What do i call myself?

when i was a vegetarian and ate fish i was pescatarian...but now?

Answers:
I don't think a word exists that describes a diet of fish being the only exception to a vegan diet. You may want to create your own. You said yourself that as a vegetarian who ate fish you were pescatarian. Technically speaking, you are still a pescatarian, but you have refined your disipline further and want to be honoured for that. perhaps you feel unappreciated for the sacrifice you have made. Be careful with these thoughts, because you are beginning to define yourself based on what other people think of you. This makes you very vulnerable to citicism, condemnation and complaints, and other forms of judgement. Ask yourself why you care so much about being recognised for your choices. If you want to be a pescatarian vegan thats fine, but don't make a point to gloat or boast that your so good and right in your choices.

If your desire is to help yourself acknowdge where you stand, you could think of yourself as a peski-vegan, peskoveg, or pevegan. None of these words actually exist, I just created them, but it gives you something to think about.

If your only reason for eating fish is for the omega 3 DHA found in them, you may consider Flaxseed oil, Safflower oil or Sunflower oil. If your reasoning is due to availability, consider the experience of dying by someone putting a hook through your throat, and pulling you out of the atmosphere that you need to breath, then watching you asphyxiate. That is what you put the fish through when you choose to eat it from a source like the local beach. If you buy from retailers, the fish were likely sourced from supertrawlers, who use deep sea nets, where the fish die from decompression long before reaching the surface. The people who work on these trawlers are often the poorest people in the region, like 17 year old indonesians abducted from home and paid only in the food and accomodation received on the boat. Being in international waters, the laws set by nations do not apply, and the united nations laws such as the Geneva Convention are unenforcable given the vastness of the oceans worked. There are a growing number of areas in the world's oceans that are growing in size and depth that are incapable of supporting marine life: Oceanic black holes, wastelands of a sort. These areas are created by supertrawler nets literally scraping the seabed clean for hundreds of square miles in their search for rare and valuable marine life. By buying fish you support that. By eating fish you support the buying of fish. Finally, the oceans of earth have been poisoned with large volumes of chemicals, heavy metals, acids, biological agents, and radioactive waste, each of which on it's own is highly dangerous to human health, many of which are transferred from the water into the tissues of the fish that you eat. Together they make a cocktail similar to the dangers of cigarette smoking if taken in large enough quantities. Also, it would serve you to look into the concept of bio-accumulation, where the concentration of chemicals increases exponentially over the life of the fish, meaning the larger (older) the fish the higher the toxic content. by eating them, you too bio-accumulate those toxins, storing them in your fatty deposits, which causes conditions like cancer, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, dementia, and hundreds of other conditions.

pesco vegetarian or vegan since you eat fish.

omnivore.. you eat meat and veggies

This must be a joke... Vegetarians don't eat fish, And vegans definatly don't eat fish... FISH IS MEAT!

Your a meat eater. Until you quit eating fish you will always be a meat eater. Sorry but thats the facts of it.

YOU'RE JUST A GUY THAT DOESNT LIKE MEAT OTHER THAN FISH
YOU'RE NOT VEGAN

There are a few options:

-"Nonmeat-Eater: Does not eat meat. Most definitions do not consider fish, fowl or seafood to be meat. Animal fats and oils, bonemeal and skin are not considered meat." (according to http://www.ivu.org/faq/definitions.html)...

-Flexitarian (according to http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...

-The term you are looking for, however, is:
Pescatarian: A vegetarian who also eats fish or other seafood. From the latin word for fish: piscis. Also known as a fishetarian. (according to urbandictionary.com and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/pescetarian... and http://vegetarian.about.com/od/glossary/...

Sooo you are a pescatarian/fishetarian :)
Hope this helps!

call yourself a "fish eating, vegetarian",.....

How do you justify eating fish? Pain is not processed in the cortex, so the experience is just as acute (if not greater) in lesser cerebrally developed animals. Be careful not to become another kind of speciest, one who judges the interests of an animal based solely on its habitat.

In response to your question, you are still a pescitarian.

Vegetarians don't eat fish and vegans don't touch any animal products at all.. your not at all a vegan but you can call yourself a near vegetarian. Words like pescatarian are garbage just designed to confuse people! No such word back when I was in school and I was top of the class in spelling!

Semi-Vegan=Vegetarian. It goes in this order:Carnivore, Omnivore, Vegiterian/Herbivore/Semi-Vega... (@_+)

a human being...I hope...

you are kidding me!!!! you are not vegan body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The time honored correct term for your diet is listed in the link below!

Thanks for being one of the people that make folks think that vegetarians eat fish
[Sarcasm mode:off]

If you want to eat fish, fine! Just don't go around confusing the omnivores!

Pescetarianism also called Pesco-vegetarianism...only animals eaten are fish and other seafood.

i honestly think that any body who eats a liveing thing is a meat eater! fish have feeling to

give the man a break will you? instead of criticizing him or condemning him don't you think you should just support him not all people can be a ready vegan but at least he's near to something.people who want to become a vegetarian needs support not criticism.he's just asking a question.
(first of all don't you think you should be considerate first for other human beings?)

You are certainly not a vegan, not even a vegetarian. Dictionary defines vegetarianism as a person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.

Why do you feel the need to label yourself at all? You are simply a omni that doesn't eat chicken, and red meat. Pescatarian is a made up term by people who want to be vegetarian, but either do not have the discipline to go completely, or want to feel as if they are making a difference for animals(but are still supporting cruelty).

I am glad at least you have cut out certain animal flesh from your diet. However, until you cut the fish out you are simply an omnivore, that calls themselves a vegetarian.

omnivore. since you eat meat.
