Does oat really help in reducing cholesterol?!
Does oat really help in reducing cholesterol?
I'm interested to lose my weight and a friend suggested me to replace my meal(rice, noddle) with oat. Any other suggestions?
Answers:
Yes and no. One of the studies that backs this claim (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, February 2005) had participants put on two diets: both were vegetarian, but one included lots of milk products and the other was completely vegan; lo and behold, the vegan participants were the ones who saw a significant decrease in cholesterol. Oats were a part of this diet, but not in any greater amount than any other food. So in a sense, there is a correlation between oats and lower cholesterol, but the presentation of oatmeal and Cheerios as a miracle food for high cholesterol is kind of exaggerated.
Just as a side note, though, since you said you're interested in losing weight, eating low-cholesterol foods might mean that you're often eating foods lower in fat, but cholesterol doesn't make you fat. If you want to lose weight, opt for low fat items.
yes quackers.
yes oatmeal does because it says it on the box
YES IT DO
I don't know about Oats. It may help. But one thing that helps surely is walking/jogging a lot and generally leading an active life. My sedentary life is giving me cholestrol trouble. I've taken up walking regularly to get back to normal.
Stay away from things that have High fructose corn syrup and sugars. The best way to avoid that is to go orangic on your can foods and so on.You wouldn't believe how many of your foods have that..GL.And yes oats are really good for you.
That's right. It's healthy and good for the heart as well. Eat wholemeal bread too.
It does. The soluble fiber in oatmeal forms a gel that actually helps to transport cholesterol out of your bloodstream.
Oat bran, whole grains and other high fiber foods are good for cholesterol. Look for the phrase whole grain on your food labels. You might not like everything so try different whole grain foods to find something that you like. Try brown rice instead of white. Also be sure to eat fruits and vegetables. Make it a habit to exercise regularly.
Oatbran, you mean. It is healthy for the heart and has a lot of fibre but it takes a variety of moderately-taken food to make you an all-rounder .Noodles , avoid if possible . Boric acid.
