Are vegans and vegetarians usually thin?!

Question:

Are vegans and vegetarians usually thin?

Answers:
Not always.

If a vegetarian were to live mostly on something like cheese or a vegan mainly on chips then that wouldn't exactly be slimming.

On an appropriately planned vegetarian diet though, a person is probably more likely to maintain a healthy weight though.

Research has shown that vegetarian groups have a lower risk of obesity and longer life expectancy than meat-eaters.

They are nor a single group. Some 'cultural' vegetarians are not at all thin (e.g.hindu) - they may avoid meat but consume lots of butter fat e.g. for cooking (ghee etc.).
Some say western veggies are thin because they are mainly driven by environmental concerns and so are more likely to be health conscious.

no

Forest Whitaker is a vegetarian.

Would be great but they have all sorts as the meat eaters. VEG doesn't mean just eating without calories...

No I'm not thin, I'm 1,76 m (I think its 5.7 ft) tall and weigh 68 kg (I don't know in pounds, maybe 150...) and I'm vegan. (Sorry for my English, I'm German)

Not junk food vegetarian that like Breyer's ice cream and Mike Sells potato chips...

not always. my cousin has a vegan friend who is obese, im vegan and i am average and there are defiantly some vegans that are skinny. it depends on the body and what the people put in it.

I dont know any obese vegans. Most of us are healthy looking and slim. I think this is because vegans dont get any animal or dairy fat. In theory a vegan could be fat living only on potato chips, but I dont know any who do that. Even though most vegans are on a vegan dier for ethical reasons, eventually we become aware of the health benefits and eat much healthier food than carnivores.

i dont know...most vegetarais that I know are thin, and I am not a thin girl, but since i started this lifestyle month strong, I have lost only 4 lbs, and my bf has lost 12 lbs!

No, depends on how he/she eats. And the main thing is Exercise.

Both myself and my mum are vegan and we are both slimmer than average, but I wouldn't necessarily say thin. I'm 5'5 and 118 lbs and she's 5'8 and 135 lbs. Both of us tend to lose or gain depending on how much we eat, rather than what we eat. Exercise also plays a big role. If I don't eat enough food, I don't have the energy to exercise and I tend to gain weight. I just try to keep a balance.

I have met some very thin vegans and some very large vegans. Though, the large ones often say that they lost a great deal of weight since becoming vegan. I don't really know about that because I have been one for most of my life.

Yes, and kind of pale. They tend to wear a lot of those designer kind of sandals also. They also take offense when you ask these kind of questions.

Vegans and vegetarians tend to be anti-consumerists and health-conscious. Also, they put their ethics over their carnal pleasures, which indicates a strong will power. I don't think veganism itself leads to a light stature(although it definitely helps), it is attributes that are often associated with it that cause vegans to be thin.
