I think I'm gonna stop being a vegetarian!?!
I think I'm gonna stop being a vegetarian!?
I started just one month ago. Problem is, I can't find any meat substitute where I live right now (overseas) I only found one product and it's DISGUSTING. I'm feeling so weak for not eating any meat=protein
what do I do?
Answers:
Someone said peanut butter... You could try that.
Also, make bean burgers... there are plenty of bean cake recipes online... slap one on a bun with some lettuce and tomato... you got a meat substitute.
Beans have protien.
You need to take a good multi, drink lots of water, try eating Ramen Noodles without the packets, add pepper and a salt subsitute. Drink Fruit Veg Juices and find a protein shake that tastes good, lot of salads, try to find some tofu and learn about Thai Food/Cooking and check out a vegatrian magazine and subscribe to it
have a steak.
How about just eat eggs, cheese and fish? It would be difficult going without all of those foods !
Good idea. Vegans are a bunch of queers anyhow.
well unless you really don't want to give it up or have to be a vegetarian, you should give it up. I love meat.
research, find meat supplements. I know tofu is something that'll give you protein that you'll find in meat. Or take protein supplements.
Peanut Butter Has Protein In it. But Meat Is important In a healthy diet. I would Definetly Go back or ask the Doctor what You should eat to maintain a healthy living eating style. Good luck!!
I would say get off vegetarianism. If you did it as a cult/fad thing, it shouldn't be hard. But if you just don't like meat, like many people I know, it will be harder. Beans are the best protein substitutes, and if you can't finds any beans, you need to get a new grocery store.
erm.. hard one... anyone you really hate? roast them over the BBQ vola!! lovely juicy meat!!! or try and get in hold of some protein tablets and eat meat when you can get hold of some decent good stuff!!! hope you find some soon!! :D
If you think that its the best idea to stop becoming a vegetarain then stop. Try to c if you can hav vitemans or something w/ protein in it before you stop though. You could also just eat enough meat to make you feel strong.
Isn't it obvious? If you can't find the resources, you can't do the job right...if your body is suffering, you need to fuel it...I was a veg-head for years, but quit it because I didn't feel well do to lack of protein...do what's best for your body! There are LOTS of things you can do with beans to get good protein...soups, chili, dips, etc.
hmm.. good question, how about we talk about it over a nice, juicy steak.
ok im sorry for that. listen if u became a vegetarian in the first place it was for a reason. Try thinking of that reason to give you strength to carry out this lifestyle. It might be hard, yea, but if its sumthin u really wanna do u'll find a way around it.
Not sure what your reason was for becoming a vegetarian but if it's not something you HAVE to do try going no red meat. I did it just to see if I could and it wasnt that hard. It'll be an easier transition. And fish and chicken is much leaner than red meat.
And to be honest with you it doesnt matter how much beans or non animal based proteins you eat, it just isnt the same. If you plan on sticking with the vegetarian thing get some protein or amino acid supplements.
Don't give up just yet.
You can order vitamin's and minerals from www.drugstore.com if you are overseas at an APO. (?)
Try eating nuts and peanut butter, drinking milk (organic) eating pasta and rice which are full of protein.
Then, if that doesn't work then try adding some fish to your diet but don't go back to redmeat!!! It's terrible for your body.
stop being a vegi its a waste of time because people are gonna kill da animals anyway right?
OK.What made you become Vegetarian? if you think it is wrong then try to eat salads. you don't have to quit cold turkey.eat less and less amounts of it.then your body will get use to not eating meat.take daily vitamins.that's all i can say to do.
depends on where you are.
my best suggestion is to find an alternate protein source, like nuts and legumes (beans) or protein shakes
good luckif you cannot find the alternate source, youll have to quit, sorry. you could try seafood only if it makes you feel better, or just boiled eggs
Eat meat for your protein, but... don't overdo it by eating an entire side of beef at one sitting. Meat is good for you and if I may say so, rather tasty to boot. But like anything, you can over do it (you can actually drink too much water and die). From a health standpoint, meat eating is healty if eaten along with a healthy diet of fruits and veggies.
Eat small amounts of meat. Organic is best.
If your hesitant to start back on red meats right away, try canned tuna and/or salmon (some people are repulsed but I love it!) It's worth a try, both are high in protein. If you hate it, more power to ya to go back to red meats. We are omnivores. Hope it helps!!!
Have you ever heard of legumes? I can't think of any country where they wouldn't be available.
Please go to the Physicians Committe for Responsible Medicine website, www.pcrm.org. They are a group of medical doctors and laypeople who promote reforming the federal food pyramid, along with compassion in medical education, etc. They have so much good nutritional info for vegetarians, and they stress that you do NOT need animal sources of protein. In fact, their "food pyramid" doesn't include any meat or dairy in it at all. It sounds like you are just not making sure you are getting it from your plant sources. Legumes, nuts, spinach, broccoli, tofu... they are all better sources. Although they're great, you don't NEED the pre-packaged meat subs, you just need to make sure your diet is well-rounded and nutritious.
eat beans and whole grains, whole grain rice, vegetables (dark green ones have calcium!), fruit, seeds, nuts, legumes. it all has protein, you don't need another animals flesh to be healthy! i never eat substitute meat and im vegan.
The fact is that people need protein, but not nearly as much as they think. There are also plenty of veggie friendly foods that can provide you with as much protein as you need. Beans, lentils, nuts, peanut butter, tofu, and soymilk are all packed with protein and essential for a healthy vegetarian diet. To get some simple ideas for meals with plenty of protein, check out this site:

I know it's discouraging to be in a foreign country and not have anything to eat. Just remember that eating simple raw foods are the healthiest thing for your body, and you don't have to compromise your morals. I've been vegan for 11 years, and have traveled abroad several times. Buy groceries at a market instead of going to a restaurant, and if you do want to eat out, try to find a place that's vegan. Check out:

Good luck and power to you!
I live in united states and have bunch of substitutes, but i don't know where you are staying. Use plenty of legumes, dip your legumes (kidney beans, pinto beans, garbanzoo beans, navy beans and all double cotilidan legumes ) for over night and cook in the morning just like curry or soup.
use whole wheat tortilla (roti) which makes you full.
Use pasta and vegetables, bread and refried vegetables.
use plenty of soy products.
be vegetarian
If you're truely commited to living compassionatly and feel that it is a good choice for you, then there is one thing that you really need to remember: food does NOT have to look like meat to be protein, calcium, iron and b-complex rich. Being healthy on a plant-based diet isn't possible if you aren't well-informed as to what you need and what options are out there. Dark leafy greens are great for iron and calcuim, whole grains are significantly more nutritionally dense (protein and fiber!) than their refined counterparts, and beans an legumes are great protein and fiber sources. Tofu, seitan, tempeh, and other "meat alternatives" are generally pretty easy to find in asian markets and such (I don't know where "overseas" you are, but food is a pretty free-market ordeal in most developed, and even developing countries). Whole grain rice and beans are always a fail safe complete protein. You don't NEED meat to be healthy (in fact there is a good bit of evidence out there suggesting that meat, especially red, is detrimental to your health). Stay with it and keep an open mind. Do some research, vegetarianism is a great reason to delve into new foods. Give everything a first and second chance.
Pura Vida and good luck!
There is sooo much literature out there to help out with the transition (including amazing cookbooks like Vegan with a Vengence, and all of Sarah Kramer's books). Vegan Freak is great too. (sorry most of the good stuff is for veganism, but is absolutely relevant).
PETA's website has lots of information and The Post Punk Kitchen website has great recipies
Information is key!!!!
I think your feeling of weakness is pyschosomatic. Meaning, you're not really protein deficient, you just think you are. Vegetarian and vegan diets have plenty of protein, and its generally not something you need to actively acquire.
Grab some literature at your local library and check out the numerous web resources for vegetarians. You'll be sure to find plenty of tasty, protein rich meals to eat. The more educated you are about your decision, the more committed you will be.
Quit if you really want to. Alternatively, eat more nuts, seeds and beans. If you aren't vegan then you should be fine eating eggs and dairy. It would help if I knew what country you are in so I could suggest something local. Know that you can still be compassionate toward animals by being mostly vegetarian. I'd be a shame to have you go back to eating meat 7 days a week just because of your current problem. You shouldn't feel weak from lack of protein unless the rest of your diet is total crap like sugar and white flour. Are you eating good food? Like fruits and vegetables?
drink milk and /or take vitamins and ask fellow vegetarians see what they think.
