How do I get more protein without eating meat?!
How do I get more protein without eating meat?
I have been altering my eating habits to exclude red meat. I can tell that I am not getting enough protein (lethargy) but I have no idea how to increase my protein intake without adding a ton of calories or harmful byproducts with it. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Well, lethargy isn't generally a symptom of a lack of protein. It's more likely due to a lack of carbohydrates, too few calories, not enough vitamins (are you eating enough fruits and veggies?), poor sleep quality, or drinking too much alcohol. You say you've only excluded red meat, so I really don't see how you'd reduce your protein intake that much if you're still eating other animal foods.
Anyway, non meat sources of protein include beans, nuts, lentils, seeds, quinoa, buckwheat, tofu, tempeh, and seitan (wheat gluten).
Good luck.
Beans, peanut butter, soy products......there are all kinds of things out there!!!!
List of High Protein Foods
Foods like eggs, milk, spinach, soybean, quinoa, fish, whole grains, rice, beans, legumes, corn, oats, peas and peanut butter are good sources of high protein foods.
Eggs and if you're worred about the yolk, just eat the egg whites. (I'm assuming you're not Vegan, right?)
Nonfat yogurt and canned or dried beans that you prepare to your preferences. Other (higher calorie) options are cheese, nuts, and nut butters.
beans, nuts, soy. there's plenty of other stuff. start reading the backs of packages and it will help you learn more about it.
i prefer peanut butter on whole wheat, and even though you specified no "meat", i also like tuna fish.
Cheese has protein and so do eggs.
My mom has this power and it's flovored she has one vanilla and one choclate and it's like $50 dollars but you haredly use any. And all it is, is flavored protien basically. It works great. the Vanilla taste's better.
milk, cheese, fish, Tuna salad, cottage cheese, roasted chicken, lo-fat yogurt, varieties of beans.
most americans eat 150% of their daily protein. lethargy may be a symptom of vitamin difficiency, too much caffiene, poor sleep or dehydration.
if you really want just extra protien in your diet the easiest "whey" to go is protein shakes. you can just mix 2T. of whey protein into a cup of water. add fruit, chocolate syrup, peanut butter and mix. When this is my breakfast, it keeps me going until lunch.
protein is overrated. unless you are muscle builder, you need about 30g of protein daily, max. you can get it easily from a variety of fruits, veggies, beans and nuts. add tofu or tempeh if you want to.
why do you people think your bodies need tons of protein every day? it's absurd.
You should eat nuts, beans, soy products, and tofu. Try substituting tofu for meat in stir-frys and eat a handful of almonds, walnuts, pecans, soy nuts (my favorite!) for a snack, these nuts are kind of high cal. but they fill you up fast and keep you full. Oh, cottage cheese is much more protein than dairy, is low calorie, and tastes excellent mixed with pineapple, peaches, or really any fruit.
You should try to get non meat protein in the form of a complex protein. Example the combination of beans and rice will give you a complex protein. The best non meat protein out there though come from the south American grain Quinoa. you can find in in most grocery stores and you can do anything to it that you would do with rice.

Beside the protein it's also healthier than most of the human meals. If the dog survive it, we should too.
there are a lot but i will tell you two
fish and beans
eat mostly nuts, eggs adn beans
Beans, tofu, lentils, nuts, peanut butter, and soymilk are all packed with protein. If you like meat products, you can get "fake" meat like seitan, soydogs, veggie burgers, etc. Try looking for Morning Star Farms, Amy's, Smart, Boca, Loma Linda, etc. because they have a wide variety of mock meats. However, if you're more into raw foods you should stick with the beans and peanut butter... also, whole wheat breads have some good protein also, although it isn't as much.
You are mistaken. Protein is in everything and the non red meats you eat provide more then you even need. I eat no flesh at all and get what I need from grains, nuts, beans, veggies etc. Most people get too much protein as it is.
All foods have protein in them. Here are some with high quantities:
-Soy Products
-Kidney Beans
-Baked Beans
-Chick peas
-Bread
-Vegetarian Cheese
-Lentils
-Nuts
-Seeds
-Free Range Eggs
-Cereals
-Pasta
-Brown Rice
protein is found in soy beans which is actually found in morning star farms veggie burgers and any beans you eat. peanut butter is a good source of protein! tasty ,too. any type of protein you need is found in nuts and beans. we DON'T NEED MEAT for that. so eat on veggie lovers ;eat on.
