Is it worse to kill a whale than it is a Chicken?!
Is it worse to kill a whale than it is a Chicken?
The essence of this question is it worse to kill an animal whom you perceive as having a higher level of conscious. Or better yet is their such a hierarchy or are there only differences? If not this begs the question are we to treat all life equally or are we blind to our own prejudices?

Oh gosh... I'm fairly sure you do not like my answers, but I like your questions, so I will answer.

I am sure to the chicken and the whale, the issue is quite equal, and I feel the lives specifically are equal. However, because many whales are endangered, and because if the whales die, many, many species will die with them, I would have to say killing a whale would indeed be worse.
I would think they both have the same desire to live though, and I would want to kill neither.

My hidded biases.
if I plan to eat it, it's just as equal
a whale, in Australia there are more chickens than humnas and besides chicken is yummy
It would be worse to kill a whale, I would not want to kill a chicken wither(I do not eat chicken) but it is defiantly worse to kill a whale.
I believe you waste way too much time thinking. If you spent as much time >doing< this would be a better world.
I think so because there are more chickens then whales!
There are people who kill and eat both, so I am not going to be the one to judge. One whale will feed 1000's, a chicken will feed only three or four depending upon the size.
Intelligence issues aside (I have no doubt that whales and other cetaceans are highly intelligent), I think killing a chicken would be far more acceptable.
No species of chicken has been hunted to near-extinction; obviously several species of whales have been. Some people believe that raising a species of animal as livestock can actually save that animal from extinction.
Assuming I was killing an animal for food, I'd have a hard time eating an entire whale, whereas I can polish off a whole chicken in a day or two. Chickens are not equal to whales, in terms of physical mass, or in terms of intelligence. And neither animal is equal to humans.
Another way of stating it: I do regard all forms of life equally. It's just that there are some forms that I like to eat.
Why kill any of them?! D; I like chickens and whales!
Since GOD created ALL the animals for us to eat (1 tim.4:4) and I REALLY think he's smarter than we are....I'd have to say it's all the same.
Gosh, this is such a hard one.I don't believe both deserve to be killed. It's like asking who do you want to save if you ship wreck? Your mother or your sister? The whale is an endangered species and the chicken is a precious meal for some people who can't afford to eat. But in the end if were to choose, I would say chicken because it's faster for them to procreate, grow and take care than a whale.
We breed chickens for food, we do not breed whales for eating, yes I think it would be worse to kill a whale than a chicken. There are too few whales left in the ocean.... .... ....
I don't think we should kill either of them. But if I had to choose, its worse killing a whale because some species of whales are on the brink of becoming extinct. And we have plenty of chickens.
Is it worse to kill an adult than a infant? How about a mentally disabled person compared to a healthy teenager? Killing is killing is killing. So no it's not worse to kill a wale than a chicken, taking life is just as wrong in either situation .
i like chicken , i don't kill
Speaking as a non-vegetarian, I object to killing animals that are not to be eaten. If an animal is killed for food, I'm ok with that. Whales are not a food animal and the products obtained from them have other, better sources.
whales are almost extinct why would you want to kill them???????????????
I think both lives are of equal in value and
that it is no better to kill one or the other.
Equality does not mean equal value. That would be silly, as even humans have varying levels of potential and ability. The smartest man in the world's wants and needs do not have precedence over those of the masses. Equality means equal consideration of interests. In order to have interests, one must be able to suffer. Happiness is nothing more than the absence of suffering; the fufilment of needs.. Every sensate being is interested in not suffering. Pain is processed in the most primitive areas of the brain, so the sensation is the same, if not more acute, in lesser-developed beings.
Killing is a different matter entirely. Killing should be judged on the amount of net suffering caused or alleviated. If you kill a human, for instance, you must account for the human's awareness of the fact and the subsequent discomfort caused by cognisance of this, the grief of those close to our hypothetical subject, the loss of potential good that human could do, the prevention of further suffering (euthanasia), and myriad other factors. It truly needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis.
The fact of the matter is, animals and animal derived products can not be raised for human consumption on any scale without causing suffering. It is inherent. Even on the most local setting, you are upsetting herd dynamics, stealing nutrition from infants, and depriving the animal of natural behavior. In actuality this is much worse. All of this happens for the most unjustifiable reason possible, our taste buds, especially when ethical, varied, and tasty alternatives exists. Imagine the diversity of vegan foods there would be if humans put our resources behind cruelty-free cuisine!
People will sometimes say that if everyone was vegan, then there would not be any (domesticated) cows or chickens. This situation is doubtful, but if this was indeed the outcome we should not lament it. It would be analogous to grieving over spilt semen (some indeed go this far); It is not life itself that is enjoyable, the experience is what makes it wonderful. I am not happy that I am alive in the most fundamental sense, I am happy that I am able to look at the sunrise, share a meal with my family, listen to music, etc. Vegans do not save animals, we prevent lives of suffering.
