Vitamin B12 and supplements?!

Question:

Vitamin B12 and supplements?

Hey, all, thanks for your previous help with my other questions.

I take a Centrum multivitamin religiously, I love them and they give me extra energy. On the vitamin fact on the side of the bottle, it says "Vitamin B12 6 mcg 100% Daily Value"

Is this all the B12 I need, or is this daily value assuming that I eat meat? Basing your judgment on an entirely vegan diet, of course.

Oops, I had no idea Centrum wasn't vegan. I haven't actually taken the plunge yet, I have not bought any new animal products yet, I'm concentrating on learning as much as I can while the rest of the animal products in my house are used. I don't feel great about eating it, but I would rather that than let it go to waste while I am still learning.

first off, that vaitamin brand is not vegan... I buy mine from a health food store that states it is vegan
you can also try eating seaweed, as in sushi (vegan of cource) =), it has lots of vaitamins in it, including b12!!!

No it is assuming you are getting 100% of your B12 from that pill.

I take a Centrum and a B12 and a B complex every day. It's made a lot of difference. And what the body doesn't need it pees away anyway.

If you are in doubt about b12, eat parsely. Grow some iin a window box and eat at least 50 grams a day. Also available in raw cabbage. 200 grams a day. Can't go wrong. Wiccan diet. Lol

It technically is... but there is something you need to absorb the 100% daily allowance (on a 2000 calorie diet) of vitamin b12, I think it is called intrinsic factor, without this intrinsic factor the vitamin b12 does not get absorbed as well in the gut, so you will not get your 100% daily allowance of b12 (this is why so many vegetarians/vegans have this problem)

I prefer real food, I love my vitamins in form of vegetables and fruit. Only supplement I take is b12, once or twice a week.
