Yes, it is okay, and so good! I freeze all my tofu first because I prefer the texture so much more once it's thawed. It gets chewier and bit spongy which helps it absorb marinades very easily. Just so you know the tofu will take on a yellowish hue when it's frozen, this is natural, it looks white again when thawed. You can crumble it like someone said and put it into sauces or chili, but my fave thing to do is marinade then brown it in a pan.
Slice the tofu between 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and marinade for about 30 minutes to an hour. I like to use no-chicken broth with some chopped garlic, a little tabasco and whatever dried herbs and seasonings I'm in the mood for as a marinade. Then I press out the extra marinade with my hands ( save the marinade and don't press too hard or it will crumble) and cook over medium heat in a lightly oiled pan (non stick is best) until both sides are well browned. Then I add the marinade to the pan and allow it to reduce down for a minute or two and it's done. So good, I eat this about 3 times a week!
Hope this helps!
Yep, it's an old trick used to make the tofu take on a chewier, 'meatier' texture. I freeze it in the packet it comes in, and defrost it by placing the frozen packet in a saucepan of hot water.
It will only change the texture. Freeze away.
Yes I think so.
I always freeze mine before using. After thawing it, I crumble it. It has the texture of ground beef or ground turkey. I mix it with meat and my family has no idea they are eating tofu in their spaghetti sauce.
yep! i do it all the time. just do it. haha
why not?
yes sure why not? I make my own tofu by mashing up carrots and other vegetable leftovers adding alittle coconut oil too!
