Flaxseed question?!

Question:

Flaxseed question?

I always have a flaxseed shake at night. I notice sometimes they go right through me, and sometimes just normal. Does chopping them make them behave more as a laxative than if they were consumed whole?

I guess my question is more along the lines of how can I consume Flaxseeds and not get a loose stool. Sometimes it’s more firm, which I prefer.

Yes, it will have a more laxative effect, but in a good way. When you eat the seeds whole, you dont get the beneficial omega 3 fatty acids from them. By grinding or chopping them, you release that oil. Its a good natural way to stay regular. Most people think one bowel movement a day is normal, but, like a baby, you should have one after every meal. Keep on drinking those yummy shakes-it truly does a body good!

you can also take them in pill form, maybe that will help you.

I eat crushed or grounded flaxseed, because whole flaxseed go straight through, like you say, undigested, because they're too small to crush with your teeth. You can buy them whole and grind in a food processor. That way you'll get more nutritional benefits.
