Crushed beetles in your food, carmine is it in dannon yogurt?
Answers:
Dannon has gelatin in it doesn't it? That makes it non-vegetarian anyway.
If it says carmine is in it , Yes you have it. You may be suprised at all you eat and do not know it.
Some Ice Cream has seaweed in it under the name of stabilizer.
Drinkable Yogurt: Dannon's new Frusion Fruit n' Yogurt Smoothies are essentially the classic Dannon Fruit on the bottom yogurts with added water and fruit juice. The liquids dilute the calcium but you still get a quarter of a day's worth plus vitamins B-2, B-6 and B-12. Beware: With Frusion Fruit n' Yogurt Smoothies you also get the red dye carmine, which is made from the dried bodies of cochineal insects and which has caused sever allergic reactions in a small number of people. Carmine is contained in many other spoon-able and "spoon-free" yogurts. If you live on the East Coast, Natural by Nature Low fat Yogurt Shake is another possibility. It is organic and free of carmine.
I looked this up on www.snopes.com
I don't know.
I don't know about Dannon, cause I don't eat dairy, but I know carmine is often only listed as "natural coloring."
EDIT: Yeah, I hate the E numbers, too. What am I supposed to do, go shopping with a list of all the baddies? I basically just avoid anything with E numbers at all now. I figure if it has to be identified with a number, it's probably not very good for you anyway.
Carmine is also listed as cochineal, carminic acid.
E-numbers to avoid: e120, e132 (indigo carmine)
I read that the US want to get rid of this e-number completely, as every year people end up in hospital from serious allergic reactions from it.
The synthetic version is called carmoisine.
carmine is in most commercial products-often labeled as "natural coloring", "carmel color" is a main ingredient in most sodas and bread products, and it contains carmine. Many commercial yogurts and ice creams also contain gelatine (jello) which is made by boiling the skin, bones, ligaments and tendons of slaughtered animals. I am not sure about Dannon specifically, but most yogurts do contain carmine or gelatine-just be sure to read all labels-you never know where the stuff is hidden. Pop tarts, baked goods, pastries, flavored chips (doritos), etc. Dead animals are everywhere
not all of them but some. Oh and dole fruit gells have carmine too :(
Do you know where red dye #40 comes from? That's crushed beetles, too, and it's everywhere. No more maraschino cherries for you...
