Spelling class before recess.

Advertise in the local news paper for a guide.
ask how to spell it also.
Just remember the cow, deer, antelope (?) had to eat it before you can pick it from the leaf litter
Best also to get your self a dog now
Remember there are laws stopping you from destroying our (LIKE MY) forest. get your permit Know the rules.

This is the season but be very careful going after wild mushrooms! Morels are the only mushroom that I collect, the others have poison cousins and sometimes it is hard to know the difference. Even experts have been fooled!
I find mine in orchards, particularly near apple trees. They are conical, shaped like little Christmas trees. They are not smooth fleshed, they look like sponges.
Most mushrooms you would not put in water. Since the morels are so pitted, I soak them in water with a little vinegar and then rinse several times. I flour, salt & pepper them and saute in a little olive oil mixed with bacon grease. So good!

I live in Washington state and my neighbor just picked a bunch a couple weeks ago... so they should be in season now. They didn't look very appetizing though (and I LOVE mushrooms!)... a very odd looking type of mushroom.

I believe the correct spelling for them is morelles, but I could be wrong. I'd get a GOOD pic from a REPUTABLE source, or else go harvesting with someone who really knows their stuff. Mushrooms can be dangerous when amateurs go picking (which is why I dont!). My neighbor did say though that with this particular shroom, there really isn't anything else that looks similar... so it's one of the safer wild mushrooms. He said they grow under cottonwood trees.
