Can I eat sauerkraut?!
Can I eat sauerkraut?
I was told by a vegan neighbor that I shouldn't eat sauerkraut! I was really confused, I mean it is cabbage. She said that vegetables that have been fermented contain microorganisms. Should I stop eating sauerkraut? I really want to be a better person, that is why I became a vegetarian. I was tired of being a person without morals who ate meat.
Answers:
you are loosing it, eat some protein
Junipero give up . . . can you?
Geez, cut your head off, you are also breathing micro-organisms. This is just stupid. She is a whack job. Did you ever think this is a cult being a vegetarian? lol
Morals? Meat? Fermented? Wow is this ever confusing. I have NEVER heard that microorganisms were bad or against any vegetarian standards! Wacky! I have also never heard of being vegetarian to be a better person.
yes
It's fine to eat. go ahead and enjoy it.
Tell your neighbor that there are microorganisms everywhere. If she doesn't belive in consuming microorganisms she will have to stop eating in general, stop drinking water and stop breathing. Also there are microorganisms already in your body so this may all work in her favor after she suffocates all those microorganism will be free.
She is uneducated and kind of nuts, sauerkraut is fine for vegetarians and in general you can eat what ever you want, you don't have to follow other people's rules for vegetarianism.
That depends. Do you eat pickles, which are treated similarly? Do you eat yogurt, which has active cultures?
There is a large difference between vegan and vegetarian. It sounds like your friend is trying to push her ideals onto you.
Why not?! Everyday we breath in countless of micro organism. If this cannot that cannot what point you living in this world. I pity you have this neighbour.
course you can.. tell her to shut up..
It is up to you. Everything contains microorganisms. Sounds like it really depends on the impression you want to leave on your neighbor.
Just be thankfull that you have something to eat, too many people in this world have little or no food and no choices, that is a moral issue for you.
Micro-organisms are part of everyday life, my friend. To give up these little critters would mean to die, and even then, they'd end up eating you when you are decaying.
I feel pleased for you that you decided to become a better person, but at the same time you must really have a limit on how far you are prepared to go to become that better person.
I mean as far as cutting meat out of your diet, that's a good thing, but when you start getting smaller that say an "animal fat molecule" then you are on the borderline of rediculous.
As for Sauerkraut, enjoy it. I personally don't like it, and it makes you pee smell funny, but if you like it then have it. Afterall, it is only a cabbage.
Sauerkraut is not fermented. It it pickled.
Your neighbour is a foolish.
Those same microorganisms is what makes fermented foods so good to eat and so healthy. They will aide in digestion and and any that make it to your intestines will find a good home. Most sauerkraut is pasteurized anyway, and thus not really a healthy thing to eat. Most other sauerkraut is not real sauerkraut but made with vinegar. I say, eat the good non-pasteurized sauerkraut and enjoy.
We have microbes in our water, and our food too. They're on our skin and in the air we breathe.
Ethically, microbes have no brains and no nerves, so they can't possibly suffer, no matter how much they're thrashed. Therefore, eat them with no guilt.
Enjoy the saurkraut, it's vegan. Enjoy mushrooms and soy yoghurt too. They have microbes in/on them, and the microbes don't suffer. Ever.
Your neighbor is way off.
yes, and you probably should stop breathing in germs too...

Eat your neighbour - she would be gone & you would be banged up for cannabalism - two less prissies to worry about!! Bring on the Aberdeen Angus
Geez, you have a different neighbor every week - and all vegan, too! I would love to know what city this is you live in where every other person you meet is vegan.
Seriously though, why do you feel the need to post all these fake questions to try to make vegetarians look bad? Never seen anyone with a chip on their shoulder as large as yours - even my most BBQ loving friends don't care if others are vegetarian, so what's your problem? Guilt complex? Let it go, man.
(Note for people confused by his question - yes, sauerkraut is vegan. Bacteria are not animals, no animal products = no problem.)
Ohh I'm vegan and I love "Sauerkraut", why not?
Oh my good, poor microoganisms, I eat them... I also should stop breathing I could inhaling a mosquito! Don't exaggerate...
As others have said if your determined not to ingest micro-organisms that means no eating at all. Also no drinking or breathing.
