Do you think that it is wrong to not like the taste of meat?!
Do you think that it is wrong to not like the taste of meat?
What do you think of meat substitutes?
Because I know somewhere, someone is probably thinking,"oh, you're not a true vegetarian because you still want meat" or something.

Correction: To still like the taste of meat.
I have been a vegetarian for over six years now, and I very much enjoy meat substitutes. I like using ground "beef" for tacos, "chicken" strips for stir frys and for making buffalo "wings" and all sorts of fun stuff. :)
There is nothing wrong with liking that. If you are like me, you are vegetarian because you don't see the need to kill another thinking, feeling being to satisfy your taste buds. Having bologna style soy does not break that moral code.
:)
Anyway, if anyone tries to give you a hard time or tries to say inane things about you not being a "real" vegetarian, simply inform them that vegetarians do not eat animals, and you are fulfilling that requirement quite well, thank you.
Someone even pointed out once (max marie perhaps) that you do not see walking hot dogs and hamburgers grazing in fields. People take dead animals and put them in that form. There is nothing wrong with doing the same thing to soy.
If you are veg for health reasons, you may want to stay away from the stuff, but that has nothing to do with how vegetarian you are.
:)
EDIT- After a while you only like what you *think* meat tasted like. I thought I loved the tast of chicken for years after becoming veg. A couple of months ago there was a piece of chicken mixed in my tofu Chinese dish... it was disgusting! I chewed for only a couple of seconds before I noticed an abhorrent taste in my mouth.... it very literally tasted like something rotting.
... Anyway, I remembered chicken tasting a lot yummier. I guess what I like now is fake chicken.
:)

hmmm a lot of people ask me thatquestion... it may be hard for an individual to rid themselves of the taste that is why there are substitutes! Eating soy meat is better than eating REAL ANIMALS!
If you like meat, eat meat. Not everyone is meant to be a Vegan. You can still be a vegetarian and eat chicken, pork, fish and seafood, milk and eggs, just not a Vegan.
You're still a vegetarian because you don't eat meat, no matter what the reason is for doing it. Case closed. If you are doing it for the animals and you still like the taste of meat, that makes you an even better person because you are putting in effort.
No, there is nothing wrong with not liking the taste of meat. Don't worry.
And anyone that assumes you're not a "true" vegetarian is ridiculous. Especially if you used to eat it. Some people just crave meat products, but they choose to not eat it for different reasons.
As for meat substitutes, they are delicious and healthy. Yes, they have the resemblance of meat tastewise, but they have many more advantages than eating meat!
Hope this helped.
every thing is different tasting than BEEF
I've been a vegetarian for two years now and I enjoy eating meat substitutes.
I think meat substitutes are ok. That returns to a personal choice and opinion of each person. I think over time all vegans should work towards refining their diet away from it, but these 'substitutes' could be considered a new type of food without calling them subs.
I think many of them are good ways for new and evolving vegs to still get plenty of protein and adapt to their new diets. Just like I love making 'egg salad' with vegan mayonaise and diced tofu...i'm not trying to substitute egg, I just enjoy the salad. Refering to it as egg salad or vegan egg salad is just easier in our society, as I only have 2 vegan friends..my gf and a co-worker. Most everyone else relates better that way or is more apt to open up and try it, perhaps giving them new insight that ordinarily they'd have been too scared of if I called it tofu picnic salad ect.
It's not about wanting to still eat meat. Many of our meat dishes growing up were our comfort foods that were easy to make by our parents, and we have an emotional attachment to them..not a lust for flesh. I say leave the self righteousness to those who prefer it and pick and do what you feel is best.
You dont have to be vegetarian...If you dont want to go back...
I wanted to go veggie but i stayed not vegie maybe you can cut most of the meat out of your diet /? how about that i hope i helped
meat substitutes are great! u can still like the taste but if u refrain from eating it then u are a true vegetarian! It about coming over ur want for meat. its human nature to like the taste of meat and if u can overcome that then that is awesome!
It is fine to like the taste of meat, and if you have been eating it most of your life it is normal to desire it. One of the difficult hurdles to overcome is the language of vegetarians. "Fake" Substitute" and "Mock", even "Meatless" are negative sounding words and turn off people who may otherwise enjoy eating more vegetarian dishes. Soy has been given such a bum rap in America, the slightest mention of it makes people want to rush to the nearest hamburger joint to gnaw the thought of it out of their minds.
Do not worry about people commenting on your choice of food. Or about if you are true to your way of doing things. And if you are not a "true" or "pure" vegetarian, who really cares? You are doing what you think is right for you, and that is good enough.
Its fine to like the taste and look of fake meats. Veggies have no problem with this.
Being a vegetarian is about not killing animals.
Who cares what the food looks like.
Meat eaters often try to use this fake meat situation as proof that we somehow want to eat meat. Nonsense. I haven't eaten meat for 27 years and bet i'd throw up if i tried.
i like meat substitutes and i'm a vegetarian. i don't care what anyone says a long as it hasn't got eyes i'll eat it
i don't understand how someone could like the taste of meat, but no i don't think it is wrong to still like it as long as you are not actually eating it. meat substitutes are a good way to keep veggies from being singled out as much as they usually are and it's easier for meat eaters to make the transitition to a vegetarian/vegan if they can still eat a product similar to meat. as long as you don't eat meat, you are a vegetarian. your taste may change and you may not like the taste of meat in the future, and maybe it won't change and you will have to eat substitutes all your life to satisfy your taste, but either way as long as you don't eat the real thing i think it's fine. it actually shows good willpower, that you don't give in and eat meat for the taste. good luck!
