Does Protein Powder go bad after a certain amount of time after opening?
Or does it stay good, even if opened, until it's expiration date? I was wondering because I have a big thing of the rice protein powder and it's been opened for a few months. (not expired till next year though) Wouldn't it grow bacteria or something? Thanks. :)

OK, I see that nobody has a clue for an answer.

Tom, I use it in the AM for shakes because I don't like to eat in the morning. I don't use too much. So, it's NOT a waste of money in my case. For certain reasons, I need a high protein diet, and sometimes it's easier to drink a shake than it is to eat. Thanks for your 2 cents though...

I just threw out protein powder that my Veg son had on hand to mix into his smoothies for breakfast. He bought it last November.
I was going to try the recipes on the can to make muffins, but then I smelled it.
What had had a nice vanilla aroma just two months ago, smelled rancid like old powdered milk.
The whey in the mix has a short shelf life. I think that if it had been refrigerated, it might have kept better, but there wasn't any room for it.
The expiration date was in next year, too.
Check the "Best by " date on the package , it is obviously determined for an open package.
Protein powder is a waste of money. If you are eating balanced meals then your body already is getting what it needs. Your body can only process so much protein at one time.. if you are drinking down more it is just going through you and you are flushing it down the toilet.
