How do you handle the fringe? (vegan)?
I am on the fringe of food, politics, art, more. Last night at a fun party a bunch of people were going bla bla bla about reading food labels and I don't even eat processed. Outside of my own circle of really good friends I sometimes feel so on the fringe of society. How do you handle that? Also, a good friend of mine (much older) was talking about how much he loves watching some news show on PBS, well it has gotten very mainstream. I had to bite my lip to not say OMG how can you watch/eat/enjoy such crap? I didnt. I wanted to.

The first two answers prove my point. Progressive views do isloate people from mainstream culture. And when you are honest about it, peopel say "oh get over yourself." I find this very true in the United States but not in Britain.

Get a grip...you sound a little full of yourself. Maybe you are on the fringe of society because of your incredibly bad attitude.
So find new friends with similar interest. And stop being so dramatic and making it all about you. The idea of friends is that you can talk about anything and you respect each other views. Not every one is the same as you. I mean so your "friend" enjoys a channel you don't. Big whoop. Sure you can comment that you just don't find PBS to your liking anymore. But don't hold it against him/her that it is to their liking. My gosh, if we were all the same, what a very, very boring world
