Because of the lack of "Beef"! and meat in general! Real men in meat. They like nice steak even other types of meat are considered bitchy like chicken and fish. Beef is the meat of men, those a non-meat eater is a pussie or a bitc!

I am a vegan and I get it all the time! My friends love to say: "Where's the Beef" it not even funny but it cracks them up! and if I get a cut around them they say I am growing a vagina on my skin and that is what happens when you don't eat meat.
Because of the way many societies consider meat and masculinity to be interlinked. It's a foolish stereotype. No idea. We own a vegetarian guest house and i've never heard anyone use or comment on that phrase, despite meeting thousands of veggies, vegans and meat eaters who stay with us.
Guess you move in the wrong circles if you have people saying that to you.
It could be because people think that vegetarians are rude, and ignorant? That they push the ideas on other people, and try and convert 24/7. (Which is completely untrue!)
It could be because people assume that vegetarians are whiny, and that we're concerned about all animal safety. People just assume that vegetarians will jump down any meateaters throat about their lifestly. (Not true entirely!)
And some people really feel that vegetarians are more commonly in women than men, which could also deal into the name of "bitches?"
It's a BAD nickname for any lifestyle, no matter what.
So, I just conclude with the fact that this nickname was made by some meat-eater than is ignorant, that probably had a bad experience with a vegetarian activist?!
Bubba's response, "that's how many vegetarians/vegans act" is just a good example of this. It's a staple in theories by any meat-eaters. But, I'll tell you, I had this debate in my college speech class about vegetarians and, someone just started talking about bloody raw steak. So, does that mean that the carnivore diet is the "diet for douche bags?" I'm not saying all meat-eaters are, but that's kind of what the "diet for bitches" title say for vegetarians.
I don't thing vegetarians should be labeled as anything OTHER than vegetarians.
