What is the difference?!
What is the difference?
This may sound stupid to you, but what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian? I'm new to this site and was just wondering. Thanks!

VEGETARIANS:
* Eat no dead animals, whether they walk, swim or fly
* There is no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish or birds
* Vegetarians do not eat foods that are *code words* for dead animal, such as "gelatin"... These are called "slaughter byproducts" which means the animal had to die to make them
* They can eat dairy and eggs but some choose not to

VEGANS
* Same as vegetarians
* They also do not eat products that come from animals, including eggs, dairy or honey
* They do not eat code words for products that come from animals such as casein (and many others)
* Vegans do not wear products from animals either. This
includes: leather, wool, suede, down, silk etc.
* They purchase products that were not tested on animals or contain animal parts (soaps, health&beauty, toiletries etc.)

Now for some similarities:
Both lifestyles are different levels of the same cause. Both
contain people who are trying to wrap their minds around a
new concept (of what the meat-industry actually is) and
figuring out what they can do to not be a part of it.

Vegetarians don't eat meat, but they can eat other things like eggs and milk, which aren't meat but still come from animals. Vegans don't eat anything that has come from an animal, like dairy products. Hope Ive helped!
Vegetarian doesn't eat any meat but will eat everything else. Vegan will eat nothing living (no fish) or animal products (milk, eggs)
Vegetarians do not eat meat. Vegans eat nothing made of any animal products so no milk, meat, eggs, etc.
Vegetarians do not eat meat. However, some vegetarians do eat fish. Everything else that they eat is a plant based diet that includes eggs and dairy.
Vegans, on the other hand, also do not eat meat. In addition, most choose not to eat fish. Dairy products are prohibited on the vegan diet. A vegans diet is entirely plant based except for those that choose to eat fish. Also, many vegans, choose not to use animal products of any kind for ethical reasons. Many experts believe that the vegan diet does not provide sufficient nutritional value and can lead to serious health risks.

Scary stuff, but certainly things you should be aware of if you or a loved one are considering adopting a vegan diet.
If you coverse with a vegan and indicate that you are not a proponet of the vegan diet, or worse yet, you mention the facts regarding the nutritional deficiencies of the diet, many vegans will resort to name calling or other sorts of hostilities. So if you are not ready to join the vegan Jihad, it's best to stay away from discussing veganism with them. They tend to be closed minded, generally arrogant, and most certainly lacking manners and rational thought.
Good luck to you.
