They are healthy in some ways, but are also loaded with sugar.. They are higher on the glycemic index then most fruits, so you might want to limit them. :)

yup they are..they are supposed to increase haemoglobin levels,strenghthen the nerves and keep them in good condition and though its still in controversy,supposed to prevent stomach and other types of cancer.its high in antioxidants and provides roughage which is good for bowel movements.but diabetic patients should be limit intake as it is high in glucose and therefore increases blood sugar drastically.
ayurveda recommends that a handful be soaked overnite in a glass of water and the raisins be eaten the next morning on an empty stomach followed by drinking the water in which it was soaked. also warm milk can be consumed after havin a handful of unsoaked raisins.maybe a raisin shake can be tried out too...

I don't believe they can cause cancer.

Believe it or not, but raisins are actually the worse thing for children to be munching on according to the dentists. They cause more cavities than candy. Plus they stick into the tooth which is not good.

Well it depends. If you bought grapes from a store, left them out on your counter for a while, then they would turn into NATURAL raisins. But the raisins that you buy at your local grocery store are very processed. They've been sugared and preserved and just undergone lots of "changes". So they're not as healthy because they are pretty artificial.
