Can vegetarians eat chicken(which is conisidered poultry not meat)?
i'm not entirely sure. i am a vegetarian, but before i became one i loved chicken. am i able to still eat it, since its considered poultry?
Answers:
Oh gosh, vegetarianism can be confusing at first. The Vegetarian Society is a great resource. Here is how it explains vegetarianism.
:)
"Vegetarians don’t eat:
? Meat
? Poultry
? Game
? Fish, shellfish and crustacea
? Slaughterhouse by-products such as gelatine, rennet and animal fats
People who don’t eat red meat but do eat chicken or fish are making a very important first step, but they aren’t vegetarians. We usually call such people meat-reducers."

I find it is easiest to simply remember: Vegetarians don't eat animals.

good luck

If you think what tastes good to you at the time is better than doing what you feel is right then do whatever you want. Just don't call yourself a vegetarian to make yourself feel better for doing so. As a matter of fact my guess is you already knew the answer to this question as its fairly obvious.
I wouldn't consider someone that ate chicken a vegetarian. Eating chicken is okay, just make sure that it is free range, vegetarian, and preferably organic feed.
im not a vegetarian, but im guessing NO. i think thats kinda the point of being a vegetarian, if it had to die so you can eat it, dont eat it.
Uh, no. Vegetarians do not eat any animal meat.
No, vegetarians can't eat chicken because it is still considered meat. Like chicken meat.
Animal by any other name is still an animal.
You need to ask yourself how do you feel about eating animals? Chicken is an animal.
edit, MigukInUJB, you wrote :>>>Funny, I even had one ask me how I would feel if, when I died, they skinned me and made a coat for a dog. I told them I hope it keeps the dog warm.>>>
You sort of missed the point here. Many animals dont get to die as you imagine dying old, from a natural cause. They are slaughtered by humans for their body parts. Would you not mind if someone did that to you? Not funny anymore, eh?
I dont care whats done to my body once I'm dead, but I dont want to die just yet. And I dont want to suffer. This is true for all animals. But you know what, I dont care that you dont care. Just dont call me "militant" when I'm only being logical.
>>>Whatever you decide, enjoy what you eat and ignore the naysayers that tell you how 'evil' you are. >>> No one called this person evil, but simply explained the definition of the word "vegetarian". If you eat animals and call yourself a vegetarian, you're not evil , just clueless.
there are many different types of vegetarians.
the first kind is called the pollo vegetarian. they exclude beef and pork but eat bird and fish
the pesco vegetarian eats fish but excludes chicken beef and pork.
the ovo-lacto vegetarian eats eggs and milk products but excludes all meats.
the lacto vegetarian eats milk products but excludes all meats and eggs
the ovo vegetarian eats eggs but excludes milk and all meats.
the vegan will eat no foods of animal origin.
basically, it's all a matter of choice on what is the most ethical to you
Poultry IS meat. If it is the muscle of any animal, fish, fowl, or otherwise, it is meat.
If you like chicken, then eat it. Just don't stop eating it just for the trendy label of vegetarian. Food choices should be made by the individual, not by the 'rules' for trendy labels.
Heck, I eat all kind of things...venison, bibimbap (dish, usually vegetarian, from Korea), brain with mushrooms (Bulgarian delicacy), dog soup (Korea delicacy-the dogs were well cared for in the back...it doesn't take much meat to put 2 small slivers in the soup, anyway...they only kept a couple dogs), fish, and a ton of foods usually made for vegetarians and vegans. I don't care about fitting into the labels. When I do eat meat, I know where it comes from, and it does NOT come from a slaughterhouse.
If you do eat chicken, just be careful.
Whatever you decide, enjoy what you eat and ignore the naysayers that tell you how 'evil' you are. I get them in real life quite a bit. Crying out for animal rights and acting like militants...
Funny, I even had one ask me how I would feel if, when I died, they skinned me and made a coat for a dog. I told them I hope it keeps the dog warm...I'm not using it anymore. I told them that if they used the tattooed parts, it might look cooler, too. I usually get a stunned look after that. LOL! (*snicker*...evil...HA!)
A person can eat whatever they want to eat, there are no rules. A veggie doesnt eat meat because they dont want to....so if you want to eat chicken, then go ahead. You'd just be a veggie who eats chicken.
Vegetarian typically means you don't eat any meat, fish, or poultry. They sometimes eat milk, cheese, and/or eggs, though. Any less meat you eat is better for you health-wise, and if you're into animals at all, a much better option due to all the inhumane treatment animals on factory farms suffer. Speaking of, if you are into animal welfare, chickens on those farms have to have their beaks sliced off w/hot blades so they don't peck each other to death because they cram so many into these really small cages. And they don't get painkillers, and they get force fed all these hormones and such, and on a last note, a lot of them get skinned/de-feathered/boiled alive as part of the process.
Health or animal-wise, anything you do is helpful. It's always better to know where you stand on issues like that.
Well i am a vegetarian as a part of my religion and we DON'T eat any poultry.
Poultry is defined as meat.
The way I see it, don't eat anything that has/had a face.
hahaha, do what you want honey. I'm a vegetarian but I'm not gonna bully you, if you don't consider chicken meat then you're not a vegetarian. I don't care what you do sweetie, eat what you want, but you're not a vegetarian if you ever eat chicken. Poultry is meat just like fish is meat, it's all the same. Perhaps you should research vegetarianism a little more in-depth. ; )
poultry is meat. stupid. fish is meat. swine is meat. cattle is meat. any animal that is consumed is meat.
If it has feathers, fur or scales then it is not a vegetable.
A vegetarian eats pulses, grains, fruits, nuts, milk, cheese and vegetables.
poultry is meat, thats just the category given to birds in general. chicken and fish are both meats even though they aren't called red meat.
