What does everyone think about the 'Mars' Chocolate company?
From now on all of Mars' chocolate (stuff like celebrations, milky way, maltesers etc) Will not be suitable for Vegetarians because they are going to be made using Rennet extracted from the stomach lining of calves. They used to use Vegie-friendly rennet, why can't they keep doing that?

Yeah, just read that recently. I'm not a vegetarian, but it seems a daft move to me - the publicity can't be good and it just seems like they'll lose a lot of customers.
I think it's bad...I'm a veggie but i love mars bars. I won't be eating them anymore though :(

In a way I wish they'd all do it so I couldn't eat chocolate any more - weak I know!

Is this internationally? Just another example of how little the conglomerate companies think about vegetarians. When is this effective?

This is probably cheaper. that's why. Keep away from mixed candy bars, and go for straight dark chocolate.

I think it is awful. I have no doubt some how is will be cheaper for Mars to sell out animals and vegetarians. Big companies worry more about making money, then they do animals and people.
I am not going to buy any products made by the Mars company. A drop in sales will be the only way to get their attention. We need to band together.
When are they starting this? I only like maybe 4 chocolate bars, and Milky Ways are my favorite. = (
Oh no that's really bad! I'm glad you mentioned it or I wouldn't have known! I've been trying to buy only fair trade chocolate anyway so I guess another reason not to eat them is actually prob good! I just tried a pack of that mars planets - they're boggin! v disappointed! Guess it's mars's loss when they loose customers - gonna be v annoying when people give chocs as gifts though! n it's a horrible thing to do anyway - v unnecessary! Thanks for the info xxx
We went through this question many times yesterday, i recommend you write to Mars, many people have and that, together with no buying the product, are the only things that will change thier minds.
They were on the news and thier spokepeople show utter contempt for veggies and have no knowledge of the issues, morals, beliefs or the definition of a vegetarian.
They have made this change just so they can use rennet from multiple sources and it opens up thier supplier base to include meaty products.
shame on them. Spread the word. Veggies need to make thier stand and reduce mars sales by 5% ( veggie population )
Because they're tight, inconsiderate twats who think that they'll save some money by using rennet when really they'll just end up losing it as there won't even be as many customers as before.
