I would like to go vegetarian, tried before but quit - need suggestions.?
I went vegetarian last year, but only for 6 weeks. By the end of the 5th week, I had GAINED 10 pounds. I tried balancing meals, mostly salads with low fat dressing. I ate very little pasta and no rice (to avoid too many carbs). Has this happened to any one else? How can I go veggie without gaining weight. And, before you ask, I didn't eat a lot of sweets, candies, chips, etc. I even cut out most sodas, too - just drank water, diet waters, diet red-bull.
Answers:
try and be strick vegetarian, dont eat junk food for 5 weeks instead eat only home made food and that to boiled food and see the diffrence
best way , go see how they prepare meats ,
It is ridiculous to think that going vegetarian is a good way to lose weight. For starters, if you look at the salad entrees at most restaurant s(yes, even those with no meat and low fat dressing) they rank among the top 5 menu items in terms of calories.
Second, you are going to eat more if you are only eating salads because it is difficult to get full. When you do get full, the digestive process is much much faster for fiber and so you are ready for another complete meal long before you would be if you ate normally.
Third, get rid of the diet waters. They contain lots of crap that just amounts to extra salt and calories that you don't need. Stick with water.
If you want to lose weight, just eat normally. All you do is fix a plate, then cut each portion in half and stick it in the fridge for the next day's meal.
Don't buy in to all that tree-huggin-hippie BS.
Be smart about it and don't think of being veggie as eating vegetables so much as simply not eating meat. Get your protein from other non-meat sources such as beans and whole grains. Tempeh is a wonderful and versatile alternative. Your best bet would be to research ethnic cuisines such as Indian and Middle Eastern food, which can open you up to a whole new world of flavor. You have to be willing to cook for yourself though. Find recipes you like and see if you can replace the meat with something else, or just leave it out altogether. There are too many factors involved in weight-loss that are unrelated to diet, but a veggie diet is undeniably healthier.
that is really weird. I lost like 15 lbs right after becoming a vegetarian. Try balancing your diet and make sure you get all your nutrients from foods.
