Is it possible to be a vegetarian and still have weight problem?!

Question:

Is it possible to be a vegetarian and still have weight problem?

Vegetarians alsmost never have weight problems. I'm a vegetarian myself and I used to be overweight, but just by eating tofu instead of meat, I lost 36 pounds!
But are there any vegetarians who do have a weight problem?
And if you have, than how come?

Answers:
Having a weight problem is little to do with eating meat...it's caused by taking in more calories than you use. The source of the calories can be from anywhere. My husband hasn't eaten meat for 25 years and is still overweight.

yes vegeeies can be more fattening; dairy products and u consume more food than meat

yeah its still possible. foods that are non meat still have lots of fat

Depends on the type of vegetarian food, some of them can be fried and oily so will contribute to your weight.

What time of the day you eat also matters. Eating too late at night too close to bedtime is also bad.

Finally, for all diets, you will also need exercise to stay healthy and keep weight in control.

they can still eat alot of chocolate, icecream, candy so yea

hormones!!& eating more than required, there r some fruits & vegitables which r rich in sugar & fats & eating these ones must be limited not prohibited like mango,dates,grapes,banana,pota... some creals like beans & red beans, rice so eating without controll is a big problem even if you r a vegeterian also some people have hormonal problems & this have no relation with food diet!!

I don't know how true it is that "vegetarians almost never have weight problems", but I definitely know that t is possible to be a vegetarian and be overweight. You can weigh more than is recommended for your age and height by eating too much, exercising too little, or both. A vegetarian diet is not necessarily a guarantee to weight loss or to a healthy weight. You generalize too much.

yes, vegetarians can have weight problems just like meat eaters can. it doesn't really matter where you get your protein intake from, if you are eating junk food and sweets and other crap along with it, then you'll gain weight vegetarian or not. your body does not magically stop gaining weight once you stop eating meat...you still have to maintain a healthy diet.

Yeah, it's possible for anyone to gain weight. I don't have one, I'm actually under-weight.

i can say yes & yes. before i became i vegetarian i was nice & thin. since then i really have to watch my weight. but its mostly because when i became a vegetarian i started to LOVE food & loved getting creative with cooking.

unfortunately i started eating fish again. i lived in fiji for awhile, very remotely & had to eat what i could catch & find which was fruit & fish. i did lose a lot of weight though.

i've almost weened off being a pescatarian but that time of the month i sometimes lose it. but having to catch your own food just so you can eat kind of changes your perspective & relationship with food.

It's more about quantity of calories than quality. If you are consuming more than you are burning, you will gain weight and vice versa.

Oh yeah they can! I am 5'3 and I was 206! That was after being vegetarian for 16 years! My problems:

I love condiments of any kind and generally overuse them
Wrong kind of bread, and too much bread
one word... PIZZA
Pastry
Veggie meats are generally very fattening, and I LOVE them.
PASTA!!!
Potato Chips
Veggie meat sandwiches with Miracle whip.. for supper! For MY metabolism that's just BEGGING for 2 more lbs!

Yes, you definitely can. And if you were to ask any of my friends and family, I actually didn't eat that MUCH.. I wasn't like shoving food in my face all the time. I ate normal amounts, but the wrong kinds of stuff. And there was the occasional candybar/soda combo between meals, once in awhile.

BTW I've been super-dieting. Since Sept I've lost over 50 lbs and I wanna loose anohter 20 by mid July.

Yes, They can be over weight if they eat lots of bread,
starchy vegges like potatoes and yams and pasta.
Whole milk and cheeses can put the weight on a person too.
Then some vegeterians eat lots of sweets. That's bad.
