I am looking for ways to eliminate cheese from my diet, any suggestions?!

Question:

I am looking for ways to eliminate cheese from my diet, any suggestions?

Answers:
It's best to start slowly. For example , try not eating cheese for two or three days out of the week and gradually add another day every week or two and before you know it you'll be cheese free!!

stop eating cheese? or eat that tofu cheese if you have to.

Try soy cheese....I love it....the mozzarella flavor.....

put the cheese down and WALK away! easy

You dont say why, but if its because of the animal rennet used in cheese, try Cabot brand cheeses which are made from vegetarian rennet. You can make a yummy mock cheese sauce with nutritional yeast (not brewers or bakers yeast) which you can get at most health food stores (I like KAL brand) There are also rice and soy cheeses available.

The first step is to avoid putting it in your mouth. If you can keep it out of your mouth, you'll be fine. However, if some cheese ends up in your mouth sometime, try to get it out before you swallow it. It's a pretty complex system, but it works well.

"The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook" by Jo Stepaniak helped me cut down a lot on my dairy.

There is a recipe in there for vegan cheez whiz that is tasty, low in fat, higher in fiber, nutritious, cheap, and easy to fix. I use that in a lot of rec pies in place of the real thing now, but it's good enough to eat right out of the bowl.

Research all the animal products or animal rennet that gets put into it. You know, that stomach lining enyzme they use to rot milk into hard textured 'cheeses.'

That should persued you away from it I'd hope..

otherwise just stop eating it :)

or get a soy cheese that doesnt have caseine in it.

Soy... It is delicious, it tastes just like the other stuff, but its good for you too.

Seven Steps to Breaking the Food Seduction

Tired of feeling like food has an uncontrollable hold on your life? Wondering whether you really could live without chocolate, cheese, sugar, or meat? Here’s a list of tips to help you free yourself from unhealthy food cravings:

1. Start with a good breakfast. Cutting hunger is the first step in cutting cravings.

2. Choose foods that steady your blood sugar. Beans, green vegetables, fruit, and whole grains help prevent blood sugar dips that can lead to cravings.

3. Eat at least 10 calories each day per pound of your ideal body weight. This tip is directed at calorie-cutting dieters who do not realize that, if they eat too little, their bodies stop making an appetite-controlling hormone called leptin. A person whose ideal weight is 150 pounds needs at least 1,500 calories per day, and probably much more.

4. Break out of craving cycles, which can occur daily, monthly (with a woman’s cycle), or yearly (with the change in seasons). Monthly chocolate cravings, for example, can be reduced with a low-fat, vegetarian diet, which tends to reduce the hormone swings that lead to cravings.

5. Exercise and rest are keys to restoring your physical resilience.

6. Use social support. Enlisting the help of friends and family makes changing habits much easier.

7. Take advantage of other motivators. New parents, for example, may decide to eat healthy foods not just for themselves, but for the sake of their children.

Most importantly, try the “Three-Week Break.” Research shows that if you have managed to set aside an addicting food, such as chocolate, for three weeks, you crave it much less than if you had just had it yesterday.

Breaking the Food Seduction includes a Three-Week Kickstart program and dozens of gourmet “addiction-free” recipes, including Portobello Mushroom Steaks, Eggplant Pecan Pesto, Tunisian Potato Salad, Spicy Noodle Soup, and Carob Walnut Fudge.

The easy answer is switch to vegan cheeses (lots of soy cheeses contain casein - they are made for people who are lactose-intolerant, not vegans.

I have been vegan for a year and a half and I have to say that cheese was my favorite food. I put in on everything and used lots of it. What changed me was reading The China Study and learning about how closely the dairy industry is linked to/interdependant upon each other.

You didnt mention if you were vegetarian or not, looking to become vegan. I am making the assumption that you are.

Once I stopped eating cheese/dairy for a few months, it started to smell horrible and I can't imagine ever wanting to eat it!

Good luck with dumping dairy - you'll feel wonderful in a few months!
