Turkey substitutes?!
Turkey substitutes?
I would like to eventually become a vegetarian, and the only meat I eat now is turkey on sandwiches. I know they have boca burgers, etc. as meat substitutes, but i've yet to find a turkey substitute. does anyone know of any brands that offer turkey, preferably sliced for sandwiches?

ham kinda tastes like turkey
Tofurky!!!
Tofurkey is tofu processed to look and taste like roast turkey. It has become popular as a form of vegetarian imitation meat served at Thanksgiving.
Tofurky is your perfect solution :D
There is one I know of, it's called tofurky. Made from tofu, as you could imagine from the name. My sister likes it, she says it is good. I haven't tried it.
It is available sliced, as you can see here:

You could have cheese and lettuce sandwiches...
Thats really good.
=]
Or you could go by the tufurkey?
They sell that at any grociery store.
I dont know of any sliced turkey sub. but they do make alot of meat subs with soy and tofu
way to go!! well done you!!!! being a vegetarian is a very healthy and positive thing a person could do for their body.
most large supermarkets will sell Quorn slices of either Ham,Turkey,Chicken and also Beef, these are made from Quorn which is a soya based product. they are usually with the other slices of real turkey, chicken, etc
mmm tofurkey, they make a lunch meat style substitute, it is sure Delicious
Quorn makes a loaf that is excellent. It's a perfectly round cylinder, and looks pretty plastic, but it really does taste like turkey. I made one for Thanksgiving this year, and ate it with miso gravy, and on sandwiches. It was excellent.
Also, there is a good cold cut substitute called Tofurkey. The sliced hickory smoked is really good. Their big sausages look good, but are kind of flavorless though, I don't get them anymore. You can find their products in the produce section at Publix.
I found mine at Whole Foods, but any good natural foods store should have it in the freezer section.
another vote for tofurkey. Also, smartlite brand is very good! Yves's turkey, however, was ungood.
Yves makes a whole line of lunch "meats". Turkey, ham, pastrami, bologna & even pepperoni for pizza. My safeway & haggens stores both sell them - in the same area as tofu & meatless hot dogs, etc. (fridge case, not freezer).
I've tried their ham and it's GOOD (I use it in egg "mcmuffins", omelets, baked whole - slices not separated - with glaze for the holidays, etc). Havent tried the others (except pepperoni, which is also great) as I was never much of a lunchmeat fan.
Tofurky makes "turkey" slices for sandwiches. There are 3 different flavors that I am aware of - oven roasted, peppercorn and I can't remember the third. They are pretty tasty. There is also vegetarian bolgona and ham, I think made by Yves but not 100% positive.
I think everyone covered my answers, Tofurky and Yves. Both are good. :)
