Why did you go vegetarian?!
Why did you go vegetarian?
I'm vegetarian and have been for 5 months but I'm writing a persuasive essay on why people should go vegetarian and I need reasons why other people decided to stop eating meat. It would be very, very helpful if you would answer

I first cut myself off from meat when I was 14/15 years old, when I was in highschool and our FFA. teacher took us down to a butchery shop and we saw about 10 cows/pigs get killed right in front of us. It was horrible, so I won't go into details; but just the sound of a shot gun gives me the chills to this day.
But since I was young, it never lasted and before long (usually a few weeks) I'd be back to eating meat again.
It wasn't until I was in college, and I was running low on credits for a class that I was given the choice to go see a guest-speaker we were having to get some extra-credit, did I finally quit meat forever.
The speaker, whose name is Howard Lyman; told us about how he was like a 3rd generation cattle ranch farmer and how he loved meat. He even said at one point he had gotten so heavy (I think he said he was somewhere around 350 lbs.) that his nose would bleed everytime he sat down to eat (which every meal he said, largely consisted of a large piece of meat)
He went into detail about the dead animals that they would pick up off the side of the road, or the livestock they already had that had died and would churn them up in a big grinder and feed them back to the animals. Or how they churned up the animals own feces to give back to them, to help save a few dollars, and that almost all cattle ranchers did this type of thing.
He went on to talk about how they also hopped their animals (usually chickens) up on steriods/hormones so that they would grow faster and produce more meat, even if it meant that the chickens would be disfigured. The small spaces in the cages also caused the chickens to fight more, ending up in them cutting their beaks off when they were only a few hours old to keep them from ruining their precious meat.
He finally was told by his physician that if he didn't loose weight, he'd die. His doctor suggested becoming vegetarian, and he started out doing that, sold his business and began that part of his life. He has now turned vegan, and said that he's way happier now that he's ever been.
At the end of his speech, he prompted each of us to try being vegetarian for a month; if we liked it, good, if we didn't well, at least he had tried he said. I was completely disgusted with all the information he told us, and I quickly vowed to not eat meat anymore. After the first month was up, I realized how much happier and healthier I felt, and I've never looked back.
I'll also give you the website...sorry this has been so long-winded, but I hope this helps you for your paper.

I went vegetarian because i love animals =)
Animal rights.. It is all about the horrible conditions they keep the animals in and the things they do to them its inhumane....
i agree with JULES , it sickens me the way these people treat animals like that , its so cruel and disturbing .
i went vegeterian because i think killing an animal to eat it is just disgusting , we don't need to eat meat to survive . and i believe in animal rights .
It started when I was little, my dad would go hunting and I refused to eat what he brought home. The list of animals I wouldn't eat grew from there - I've been a vegetarian for 16 years now.
1 Health - meat is bad for you and getting worse. There are so many additives, hormones, and anitbiotics in meat that you eat. Also, there are concentrated pesticides in the meat from all that the animal has eaten. Additionally, meat is being produced with more and more intramuscular fat or "marbelling".
2 Cruelty - factory farmed meat animals are treated with extreme cruelty, living highly unnatural lives of pain, fear, and suffering.
3 Environmental - the huge farms that produce monocultures of grain, which has to be foritified with artificial fertilizers and pesticides, poison the land, the water, and ultimately the consumer. The huge meat factory farms grow weakened animals in unnatural conditions that breed disease, both in the animals themselves, and in their antibiotic-laden droppings, which are collected in huge "lagoons" of filth. These lagoons are toxic to the earth and water as well.
It would be helpful in your essay to touch on the environmental aspect of global animal agriculture. It is a HUGE contributer to CO2 & other harmful greenhouse gasses.
Because I love animals and don't want to eat them!
Because my taste buds are a poor excuse for the suffering animals go through. Consumption of meat is ruining us in many ways. Its bad for our health, completely unnecessary, supports the world hunger, bad for enviroment, and devostating for animals.
I decided to go vegetarian after I did a detox cleanse. It helped me reevauate my food choices. As I did more research, I realized how much animals suffered just to be made into food for humans. They are forced into unnatural ways of living which are extremely cruel. I believe animals have the right to live their natural way.
I decided to become a vegetarian because eating meat causes suffering and I want to die knowing that I have caused the least amount of suffering possible during my lifetime.
You can quote me on that if you want ;)
Wish I could say I did it because of beliefs but personally I chose to lose meat in my diet because I never liked the taste of the stuff, even as a child. My mum used to make me eat it and I'd retch everytime she did so eventually she gave up and now we're both happy.
not eating meats can be way healthier as long as you keep with all your other nutrients. that is why i went vegetarian.
- I love the animals and I don't want anything to suffer on my account. God made many more resources on the Earth to eat other than animals.
- For some reason, I just didn't want to eat meat any more, so it became very practical to become a vegetarian.
