Check out www.happycow.com for veggie stores/restaurants in your area. There could be others that aren't listed as well, but it's a good start. Theoretically, you could get a vegetarian meal just about anywhere. Order a sandwich, minus the meat, or a salad. Many deli's actually offer very good veggie sandwiches (a coffee shop near me has GREAT ones).
Most restaurants offer mushrooms as an add-on to steaks... so instead of getting a chicken fettuccini, order a fettuccini with mushrooms, no chicken, etc. You just have to be creative.

I don't think any state has a law requiring vegetarian options... I think it's just that most companies realize there is a small market that desires it and so many offer at least one or two options to serve those clients (knowing that otherwise they will not get their business or more importantly, the business of whomever they are travelling/eating with).

The peta website has a packet you can request for trying to get more vegetarian options on your school menu.

Google
It is sick how the silliness has changed the law.
NOW you try to warp our children's mind.

Generally, restaurants that serve "non-American" food (Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Indian, the list goes on...) will almost always have a veg option. Also, you can ask at just about any restaurant for a veg-friendly choice.

Not sure about the law.

Veg at school: If you're buying food, salads or cheese pizza. If you're bringing food, pack your own wraps, rice and beans, PBJ sandwiches, tofurkey... I personally prefer Boca/Morningstar meatless-meat in a recipe I like, such as meatless chik'n wraps or meatless corndogs and pasta salad in earth-saving Tupperwear. :-)

I've never heard of a law requiring fast food restaurants to offer vegetarian options. They're private businesses and can offer what they want. Try these websites for veggie restaurants and veggie options in restaurants.

Subways have veggie delite sandwiches and ethnic places usually have veg dishes. School lunches: lettuce, avocado, cucumber, saurkraut(raw--not canned), and vegannaise on Alvarado St. bread with or without cheese and a smooshed up fruit bar. Snacks: dried fruit and nuts, trail mix, fresh fruit. Water to drink or buy milk. My kids love that sandwich--they eat it almost everyday and still aren't sick of it! I also send Caesar-type salad with creamy italian on the side(caesar dressing isn't veg). You also have to make sure the cheese is veg--ie no rennet. Hope this helps!
