Vegetarians who don't like/use leather...?
I am in high school and when I earn it, I really want a letterman jacket...but, it's real leather, and I don't use leather. Do high schools offer a faux leather option?
Answers:
Yeah, you need to ask your school. Perhaps their supplier offers them in faux leather as well. I did a quick Google search, and there definitely are some out there. Cheaper, too. I suppose if your school's supplier doesn't, maybe you could find an alternative online. It might not look exactly the same, but hey, you're special, aren't you? ;-)
Ask your school, not us.........
You might have to get it custom made though.:)
Yeah...... that's all.
Hope I was of some help to you.
a lot of vegetarians use leather. Vegans do not. there is a difference.
since your school is probably funded by the state, they probably do NOT offer the faux leather, since people asking for faux leather is such a small small percentage of your school or really the general population of the nation.
My advice, go for that honor of getting the "letterman" jacket. accept the real leather version.
then
take it to a tailor or someone that does alterations in your area & have them make an exact match in faux leather.
if they do a good job, it will look the same & no one at school will know the difference.
in the privacy of your own surroundings, go ahead & burn or bury the real leather.
I understand your predicament. I know it may be really important to you to get the jacket, but (if there are no faux options), ask yourself if it's worth it to sacrifice your moral beliefs for memorabilia.
I may get shredded to pieces by some vegetarians for this, but I don't think anyone who purchases leather and supports the industry should call themselves 'vegetarian' particularly if they are veg for animal rights. I am vegan now but have been vegetarian for 9 years and NEVER bought leather. It's animal skin retrieved using equally painful processes as meat... what's vegetarian about that?
If you have no other choice then just put the letter on a nice cotton sweater jacket like Archie wears in the comicbooks.
