Working at a non- vegan friendly restaurant.?!

Question:

Working at a non- vegan friendly restaurant.?

I work at a place on campus that serves a lot of different foods. The majority of them contain meat. I have to make salads with chicken, beef, pepperoni, and a lot of different dressings that have animal products. Sometimes i have to work at the pasta station that deals with chicken pesto and meat sauce.
Often times, that crap splatters on me. I have to work in the evening and in the afternoon sometimes. A lot of the time I'm so tired when I get back from work that I take a nap. I do put my jacket where everyone leaves their backpacks and where you get aprons and the shirts to wear for work. I have found pieces of food in that area- some that I think is meat-
So now I'm worried that there's animal products from the food on the futon and pillow on my bed (the room is usually pretty cold so I usually have my jacket on)/
- What should I do? I can't afford to wash my hands anymore. The palms of my hands are cracked and bleed sometimes. I can't find vegan friendly lotion.

1,) So what do I do? I'm really really OCD and I don't know if I should just go about daily life and not worry about animal products being everywhere.
I'm really freaked.

Hi hon, I know what you mean.

I was born and raised vegetarian and have been vegan for my entire adult life. I have NEVER consumed meat, not even in the womb (thank you vegetarian mommy!!!). Meat grosses me out like a medical disection.

DON'T work that job anymore. If you are working on campus (instead of the local co-op) because it is for the work-study portion of your financial aid, I highly suggest switching to a library or administrative job on campus.

Getting out of the meat-infested graveyard of food service is one of the best things I ever did for myself. I work in an office job now, and it is SO much better. All I have to do is keep my small bottle of vegan soap (Dr. Bronner's) in my purse, otherwise there are no dead animal products around the office to avoid. I use the computer and take messages on the phone. I never deal with dead animals or dead people. Ahhh... peace.

You don't need to worry about lotion. Get raw coconut oil at the local health food store and use it as a moisturizer. Totally vegan, smells great, works great, and the raw unprocessed kind is actually naturally anti-bacterial/anti-fungal.

Ummm.....find a new job?

Quit and work for a local co op.

I understand I am a vegetarian and have worked in cafe's serving meat - its horrible. I think yiou should find another job or ask your employers to let you do as many tasks as possible that don't involve contact with dead animals. Good luck

You need to see a doctor. It sounds like you might have a very serious case of OCD. If you are washing your hands to the point where they bleed. Meat is everywhere. You are made of meat. It won't hurt you. I respect your decision to not eat meat but you can't let the fear of meat control your life.

Okay, this is the third question of yours I've read. I think you know that your problem doesn't have anything to do with veganism. In fact, I'm inclined to think that your decision to be a vegan is an extension of your OCD. What do you think is going to happen to you if there are animal products on your bed? Not to freak you out more, but everyone's home is full of little harmless little dust mites. They even live in your eyelashes. I know in your head, you think there will be consequences, but you also realize that this thinking is foolish.

If you've gotten to the point where the palms of your hands bleed, and you're worried about transferring trace amounts of animal products from your eyeliner, you need more than Yahoo Answers for help. You need some professional help.

I think you should try and be more sanitary but also try not being so OCD.

Coconut Oil, Coconut soap, Coconut detergent all animal free

I think you need help, meat isn't going to chase you down and kill you, don't worry so much...and get another job if it bugs you so much.
