Have you heard the good news that Mars have changed their minds?!

Question:

Have you heard the good news that Mars have changed their minds?

you will remember that the other day i told you that Mars were going to start using rennet, well it has just been on the radio that they have changed their plans due to thousands complaining and threatening to boycott all their products

Answers:
I only recently heard about Masterfoods cunning plan.
There were massive petitions on many vegan/vegetarian websites that were sent to Mars UK. I think the crushing blow was that they pointed out how it would make their foods unsuitable for Jews, Muslims, vegetarians etc. These demographics make up a sizeable chunk of the UK market, and Mars would need to make it quite clear on the packaging that the foods are no longer suitable.
Honestly, why does everything have to have nuts, fish, eggs, dairy and animal byproducts in it?? What will be left for people with personal choices, allergies and religious customs to eat?!

Nope.But thanks for your infomation

Frankly I am gobsmacked...Another PC victory for the minorities.

What the hell are you talking about ??????????

wow [= thats good for us. i cant believe they would even consider using rennet though.

No I didnt hear this - it's a shame. I'd like to taste rennet (whatever it is). I am very adventurous and will try anything once. Guess you mad veggies have denied me the pleasure

Here is a link to the story

I heard this as well. It just goes to show that people power can effect the decisions of these huge corporations. My concern is that they will use the rennet anyway and not publicise the fact. I am not a vegetarian but I do not now eat Mars products so it does not effect me at all.

Yes, I am now going to be able to keep feeding that Galaxy addiction! This is fabulous news, and THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the campaign!!

Carswood, oh my god, how can you be such a moron? Having calves stomach in your chocolate is instinctive? Yeah, OK. In any case, ask any vegetarian if they're having to fight their instincts every day, and I assure you the answer is a "NO, you idiot" every time. You'd be surprised how natural it feels not to eat the flesh of a dead animal.

I'm a veggie and i'm a bit unhappy about this...hear me out...

Last Friday, Masterfoods said they NEEDED to do this to ensure a steady supply of rennet.

They wrote to me on Tuesday re-itereating that they could not get a steady supply of vegetable rennet and NEED to open up thier suppliers to animal rennet.

So, whats changed ? Are they really so inept that they don't know how to run thier business and it takes a bunch of us veggies to shout at them to get them to do the decent thing ?

No, i still say shame on them for even thinking this was ok.

And remember they still said in thier press releases that veggies are "happy to eat animal rennet in cheese". They have shown no understanding of a vegetarian in this whole sorry saga.

remeber, this company was happy to ensure lots of animals were killed for its chocolate without really trying to find an alternative solution. Which as it happens seems to have been very easy for them to find once they started getting complaints. Do you really want to revert to supporting them ?

And also remember that they do not put "suitable for vegetarians" on thier packets so this STILL gives then free will to include animal rennet in the ingredients without telling anyone. and they can include all sorts of colouring and e. numbers without stating the source.

remeber,t his animal rennet story only came out because someone specificalyl asked then about the rennet. They would not have told anyone if the veggie society hadn't made a fuss. So, that implies that if no-one finds out in the future they will still not be open and upfront about it.

and remember veggies cannot eat mars bars until the stock produced between March 2007 and June 2007 has been used up.

I'd prefer to support companies that support veggies, not those that try to hide thier ingredients sources until found out.

Oh well now they only have to stop using milk, because cows still die this way. Theres still cruelty involved. But if this is true, it's a good sign, as I always believed even the biggest companies listen to their consumers. We have to set our standards higher though. Demand vegan Mars, (at least as an alternative) that would be completely cruelty-free. Calves are slaughtered so that cows can produce milk for humans instead of their own babies. How is milk any less cruel than rennet? One kills calves, and the other cows.

Carswood, I'm not a moron and even I don't understand your comment. It's not instinct for Humans to eat meat. Also, people are WAY beyond instinct. People are living as unnaturally as possible.

Another thing you said: "Mankind has evolved into what it is today on instinct." We evolved because we have thumbs. All animals have instinct.

Answer: No. Never even heard of rennet.
I'm too health conscious to eat candy. I don't need that pleasure cause I feel good ALL the time. That's health.
